The modern Barca players under Pep may have looked like respectable timid midgets but most of them were cheating pricks, especially Basquets and Alves though they were all at it. You have a team that can force the 2nd best team in the world to resort to defending with 11 men in their own box yet you still insist on either conning, pressuring or recruiting the referee at every opportunity.

Everyone works the ref though. I don't even think there's something wrong with it because as it is the ref is useless half the time regardless, doesn't mean you have to be diving and cheating everywhere but you got to make sure the moron sees what happens. Hated that more than anything else about so many Arsenal teams, opposition kicks us to bits and cons the ref all day and we just sit and take it.

I get why you've misunderstood me, but that's not at all what I meant by "dickhead"—I meant more clueless wastemen, jobsworths, prima donnas, snakes in the grass, insufferable egotists, superfluous heroes, dilettantes, and players who you simply don't like to see in an Arsenal shirt. if we're talking dickheads in the sense of competitors with an edge/killer instinct, which I think is what Klaus was getting at, I don't think modern football needs it as much anymore. theyre a closely connected group of millionaires that don't really view club rivalries as a hill to die on. I don't see many douchey trolls or hate figures in the chelsea, Liverpool or city squads these days

dickheads in the sense of kilquey layabouts and skivers, at the moment we're ok on that front. the next wave of major contract renewals may change that pretty quickly though

Keown was one of the biggest inbred bastards the Premier League has ever seen, fans of virtually every other club fucking hated him, and I loved him to bits because he'd go to war for us in a heartbeat.

Definitely. I think we've shown a little more of that lately too. Laca has been doing a lot of it. You'd hate to be playing against him. I enjoyed our methodical break ruining fouks against Watford too, Arteta was a master at those things and I'm delighted to finally see it translate to the team.

I don't know, City a couple of years ago would press like mad when they lost the ball and would foul if they couldn't win it back cleanly. It's not as in your face as it was a couple of decades ago but but I reckon you see the competitiveness come through in the very best teams in one form or another.

I think getting those millionaires to give a damn about the team and it's goals rather than themselves is the key. Auba this season vs last is a good example of what I'm talking about, I think there were moments last season where he'd have been sulking internally about his missed chances rather than tracking back to the end of his own penalty area to prevent a shot on goal.

Pogba for France vs Pogba for United is another good example.
