I would agree except that Brighton showed exactly that today - lots of flicks to get their players into space. The key difference being their off-the-ball movement, which we had none of, and our midfield (Odegaard and Lokonga in the first half) completely switching off defensively leaving us 2 men down when we didn't have the ball.

Wtf happened to Ødegaard today? Looked like a sunday league player.

Brighton are clearly a much better conditioned team than us. Ran way harder than us with and without the ball.

What match are you watching? Brighton played like that for 90 full minutes.

Potter looks like an interesting manager. If he gets this lot to play very good football, I wonder what he could do with our squad.

they took advantage of us being too cagey or lazy to press properly, and not showing enough quality on the ball to combat their press. we started knocking it around more in the 2nd half after odegaard and auba came off, because their lack of quality on the ball was spoiling our forward play

Lokonga by contrast looked like he wasn't sure what he was doing on the pitch today, and I don't think Martin was either. Perhaps it was two bad individual performances, but they weren't prepared for this opposition at all.

Burns said in post match interview they are very disappointed not to win. Against us.

Shows how much ambition Potter set them up to be, going more than toe to toe against us and dominated overall. They are going places.

On reflection, a very young and newly assembled team, in those conditions, against a well established team that plays a very awkward 3-5-2 system really well - not too bad. Even if it was a difficult and frustrating watch.

We had lots of promising positions, but was just too sloppy when it counted.

The defence held up well considering how woeful the midfield protection was. Ramsdale very impressive again.

Saka and, especially, Smith Rowe were on point techncially.

Maybe it says something that the two worst performers on the day, Tomiyasu and Lokonga, have never played Premier League football, and in good old English weather.

Brighton's pressing is fantastic btw. Very well coached.

We came out on top in three statistics against a decimated Brighton: Clearances made, times possession was lost, and number of times we hit the woodwork. Two of those are not positive stat categories to lead and the third one was a shot hitting the post. Without White and Ramsdale we would have lost this by two goals.

Can't imagine what he can do with Saka ESR Pepe Odegaard. His 352 is properly attacking and he has transformed some of these average joes into totally new position and elevated their level. Amazing performance from them.

Tbf our players in his system would be unreal. White, Gabriel and Tomi as the back 3.just get Bissouma to partner Partey and its perfect.

It’s because they don’t play in Europe. More time to prepare and improve conditioning.

Shows no one considers us a top team any more. After the match the pundits were saying "2 points dropped but you have to credit Arsenal for a tough performance" true underdog stuff, against Brighton.
