I suppose we were phenomenally consistent at not just qualifying every season, but also at making our way through the group stage.

I find this one even more staggering, but it also highlights what our problem was back then: We lacked that bit extra to get to the business end of the competition. But it does remind you that we have just a bit of pedigree at the top level.

Yeah was just thinking the same. Uses his body very well. What a career he has had, played for all the major big clubs and won so many league titles. Shame he didn't win the UCL.

Inter bottled it. Tbf fucking Liverpool seem to have plot armour in the CL, so many undeserved wins

It's irritating to see Liverpool being lauded this morning and Klopp being praised for his tactical mastery. Inter absolutely played them off the pitch last night and Inzaghi had Klopp for breakfast from a tactical standpoint.

It's not Inzaghi's fault Dzeko is 104 years old and Lautaro Martinez would lose in a 50-50 with my nan. Inter lacked quality where it really mattered, and analysis is always outcome based, but Inter and Inzaghi taught Liverpool a lesson for the most part.

Didn't Inter have no shot on target? They definitely put Liverpool under a lot of pressure and created openings but there was no real end product or finish.

Yeah Alisson had nothing to do. Inter huff and puffed but no real threat unfortunately overall

Calhanoglu smashed the bar in the first ten minutes. Dzeko and Lautaro shat the bed yesterday and Inter weren't compelling enough in the end but they definitely outplayed Liverpool who did fuck all.

They cant defend and any cover their shit defense had has gotten worse as Witsel has started losing his legs.

How's Marco Rose been doing at Dortmund, are issues just down to players at his disposal or the coach as well?

I think Dortmund's issues go deeper than the coach at this point, losing to Bayern over and over and over and over and over again must have had an effect on a guy like Reus for example. They're perpetual losers at this point, and it shows. Though Rose certainly hasn't done particularly well, I like that he's trying to transition away from Witsel, Bellingham has been brillant, but that's pretty much it. Defensively they've gotten worse if anything. But to be fair their best players are Haaland, Bellingham and Guerreiro, Haaland will leave this summer, Bellingham the next most likely and Guerreiro's never fit for a full season. It's not an easy job for any manager.

I personally feel that they have ignored making any half-decent defensively signings for far too long.

No amount of hot shot young forwards they sign is going to cover that.

There was a reason why Bayern were happy to let go of Hummels so easily and Zagadou or Akanji were always mediocre at best.

Both Meunier (who has been average) and Guerreiro have great upsides going forward, I would not classify them as very good/world class defenders.

If this season ends in disaster (no European footy at all) I wouldn't mind giving Knutsen a try. Has his team of part time elves playing some really good football, imagine what he can do when he gets to train his team in daylight for more than six months a year and doesn't have his stray footballs eaten by red nosed reindeer.
