We have been the windows biggest spenders so far, as a thought experiment it would be interesting to see how us layman would have spent the money instead.
Rules are:
- can't spend more than we already have (budget 130m)
- can't sell players we haven't already to add funds
- can't reverse sales (so no keeping Willock, Saliba)
- can't sign players who have not already been transferred this summer
- can't include transferred players who would not have come here (i.e. Messi, Varane, Sancho, Locatelli, Hakimi, etc.)
At the end of it, post what the squad would look like. Below is my go:
In
Odegaard (£30m)
Lokonga (£15m)
Tavares (£7m)
Areola (loan)
Andre Silva (£20m)
De Paul (£30m) - case could be made that we would have lost out here but if we'd gone in strong I think we could have made him an offer that would have blown Atletico out the water
Soumare (£17m)
Total: £109m. The spare £21m + whatever else we plan to spend on a RB which we expect will still happen this summer.
Starting XI with the new signings:
----------Leno/Areola-------------
Bellerin-Holding-Gabriel-Tierney
--------------Partey-----------------
---------De Paul--Odegaard------
---Saka---------------------ESR---
---------------Silva-----------------
Second XI:
-----------Leno/Areola------------
Cedric-Chambers-Mari-Tavares
--------------Soumare--------------
---------Lokonga---AMN----------
--Pepe------------------------Auba
--------------Laca-------------------
No spot in the first or second XI for a ton of players as well (Xhaka, Balogun, Nketiah, Martinelli etc.)
What would you have done?
