One of the first things Arteta said when he turned up was that he needed to change the culture around the place. I still don’t get why people are surprised and upset that we didn’t bend over backwards to keep a backup gk who when told he’d have to compete with Leno for the top spot decided he wasn’t up for it so he asked to be sold. Now he’s spent the last year throwing us under the bus (probably explains why there’s still such a fascination with the guy) every chance he gets like a bitter ex. That seems like the exact attitude we need less of at the club.
Then we went and paid more or less the same for a bloke who when told the same thing said “not to worry, guess i’ll just have to take it from him”. Which he did. In like three weeks.
What was Emi doing when he was Ramsdale’s age? Punching the ball into the back of our net and conceding some ungodly amount against Reading in the Carling Cup? Watching Mannone start for us while he was getting sent out on loan? Fuck knows.
Seems like a sensible bit of business to me.
