You can’t simplify this goal to “player dribbled past a player and shot”, that’s a ridiculous dismissal of how sharply Lamal accomplished this.

From beating his player to shooting was instantaneous, and based on fantastic technique. Saka has scored plenty of cut in/beat a player and score a curler, but they’re generally achieved with a few steps between the move and shot, this wasn’t and in turn disguised the shot.

Not nearly enough times. You may be unimpressed, but that’s a ridiculous goal by any standard. The vision and skill to find himself the space and time to get his shot off on the edge of the box when every defender knows he has that in his locker and it is their primary assignment to stop it. The quality and precision of the finish is also jaw dropping. Folks need to stop hating and stop trying to normalize what we are seeing from this kid. He does this sort of thing every week now. Check out Ethan for example, he has the same curler in his locker, but has become so easy to neutralize. The only reason i check in on Barcelona games or watch the Spanish NT is to see Lamine play, and he basically always delivers when fit.

He’ll rightfully be crowned best player in world football soon, and at this age will likely dominate the award and the game for at least another decade.

Fuck all backlift or telegraphing. The duration between him stopping suddenly over the ball and it becoming apparent he was going to take that shot on was a full second, maybe two seconds less than the average player.

Sicario2 Messi was 18/19 in around 2005-2006. Messi was very good but not better and actually had a fair few injury issues around that time.

Of course Yamal has to effectively keep this up now for another 15 years and I suspect he's already been overplayed.

At that age - Messi was a super sub with Tevez (wasn't clear that he was going to be better than Carlos) for Argentina. Yamal has already won a WC (albeit not playing greatly) and Euros as well starting in several title wins.

Im not missing anything from anything. IMO, it was a good goal, and thats about it. There was nothing uber-memorable about it. Nothing about it will make me remember it in the upcoming weeks. Lol.

There's a lot of hyperbole in football, coupled with an obsession with optimising performance which leads to repetitive patterns of play getting over-hyped.

On the latter point, I was chatting to one of my mates about this yesterday. Clearly there's been a statistical analysis that says you have a greater chance of scoring outside of the box if you hit the ball with the inside of you boot whilst aiming for the far post. I say that because it's such a common sight nowadays. And obviously this still takes skill but I swear 9 out of 10 'worldie' long range efforts are that exact template. Give me a Silvinho against Chelsea any day of the week or even Trossard against Sunderland. More variety, less predictable patterns of play.

Calling this a repetitive pattern only makes sense if your logic is "in general, shooting with the inside of your foot in the far corner is the most optimal choice and that's what Yamal did" and ignore the specifics. Look at where the GK is standing. If you're coaching repetitive patterns, you're telling him not to take that shot.
