I don't think that can count as an involvement, although I'm not sure how the rule is worded. Normally if a ball is aimed towards someone in offside and the player ignores it the play seems to go on. Romero wouldn't have ignored this one as he probably didn't know he was in offside, but he didn't get to make that choice because of Maguire.
