There are still plenty of managers who align their interests with those of their club as much as possible and keep concerns either private or diplomatically expressed.

Conte is pretty out there in both the degree and manner of his histrionics about transfers, public spats with the owners he deals with, and shit-hanging on his clubs.

I've never wanted a manager of his broad "type" (great track record, massive ego, flames out at a club every couple of seasons) at Arsenal, reminds me of a slightly less deranged Mourinho.

I mean if you back far enough you'll probably find that kindbof form at one point or another with any manager. His stint at Atalanta was like 12-13 years ago and his Serie B time was even further back.

His statements sounded more to me that he was saying the players aren't good enough and that he's putting pressure on the management to buy players with his whole "managers change but results stay the same, and players stay the same" comment. Especially when added to his point that the fans don't deserve it (ha, they do) and that he'll have a conversation with management. A case of "either get me the players I need to do my job or sack me because my hands are tied."

Hope he lasts the season there and keeps taking them lower.

Conte is definitely one of the worst around when it comes to acting like a sane adult in the press, been that way since his Juve days. Sometimes when you give success to a fucking prick it doesn't make them more intelligent.

Very harsh to look up his Atalanta days though 😆

Well, Conte is the one that said this doesn't happen to him. In fact, it does. He just happens to have managed Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan in the last decade, and those clubs occasionally don't even lose 5 games in a season. You're at Tottenham now, mate, and have Eric Dier marshalling the back four and Harry Winks orchestrating the midfield! 😆

But, seriously, everyone is trying to get ahead and looking out for themselves, and righlty so (Wenger included), but I reckon Conte would trample his own mother if it meant he could manage Real Madrid, be number 1 and earn the biggest salary. He's a horrible, dishonourable man for my money.

Whereas, I would be stunned if, for example, Graham Potter would leave Brighton mid-season should Tottenham, or anyone else, come calling, because he's a good man that knows in the long-run, being principled will get him far in his career. I also think Arteta is similarly principled. :opti:

To be fair to Conte Juventus finished 7th the season before he took over, his stint there is the whole reason he's being considered a top manager.

Also a bit unfair to compare Conte to Arteta in terms of principles, one is a mere manager while the other is 100% the solution.

Sure and it's not like he didn't say it in January, but most managers have the common sense not to arc up like that in late February when transfer dealings are off until the summer.

He sounds daft flapping about summit meetings with Levy at present … what are they going to do, come and hold his hand at training? Sounds like he's hoping for a nice fat $13m payout one third of the way into his deal. The hilarity of it is that Levy is just as much of a prick.

Not in terms of personality, but the impression I've formed of Arteta over the past 2 years is that he has very strong principles and really values respect and honesty.

At the same time he had no qualms ditching us and Wenger for City and Guardiola despite being offered the same position as assistant coach. Regardless of what we think about our current manager or Wenger in his latter years, neither Arteta nor any other coach we'll see in the near future will stick with us if they see a better gig elsewhere.

I don't see how Arteta leaving to work with Guardiola or leaving City to become the manager here contradicts what I've said about his character and values?

And I don't begrudge anyone for having ambition, good for them and good for Arteta if he ends up at Barcelona or something in a few years (if they're back to being a top 2 or 3 club in football). It's how you conduct yourself in the meanwhile and how and when you go about moving on that matters to me.

How does Potter get a / with Wenger? I don't see how they could even be compared let alone be considered a type.

Regarding the things Ricky mentioned I believe they're similar.

They're similar on paper. Lanky, demonstrated intellectual bent, emphasis on player well-being and psychology, friendly leadership, attempt to train adventurous football. Seems a fine comparison to me.

Well it seems Conte never really wanted the Spuds job, and was only convinced the second time round by Paratici.

They've lost 4 out of 6 and their two wins in that were the freak fluke at Leicester, and the City game. They are pretty much in freefall atm. Was worried the City game might mean they'd turned a corner, but I guess not.

It's perfect timing, because fixture-wise they're a bigger rival for top 4 than what United are.

Leeds are horrible. They were thumped by Pool 6-0 and now down 3-0 at half to Spuds. Apparently they are good for other teams' goal difference at the moment.
