HAHA.. 😆

I don't think the fanbase has ever this been this downbeat about a big money signing ever. Even Mustafi and Xhaka had the majority of the fanbase onside when initially purchased.

Hope he proves us all wrong and builds a legacy here.

Him being a good player wouldn't really disprove anyone here. Arsenal signing proper players in all the positions we've felt lacking would however, as that would show that this isn't about allocation.

Imagine the outrage here if Sanllehi was still here. People would be 3000% certain this transfer is a money laundering scheme, with Pepe there was hype and clubs like Bayern Liverpool and Napoli after him how do you explain this transfer without anyone else sniffing around

I am not downbeat though, he's clearly very good and I thought he was England's best defender in their pre euro friendlies.

But if are splashing out on him we buy crap CM and AM then it's time to whine.

i'll be honest, my relative lack of excitement/interest in this transfer, and all of our business, is because arteta is still here. i dont think it matters what players we sign, hes a shit manager and we're going nowhere with him, so this all just feels like putting lipstick on a pig. i want arteta gone and a new manager with a clue in his place

I'm not high on Arteta, but for me my lack of interest is simply due to us yet again pissing about for an entire summer.

It never ever fucking changes. These Kroenke pricks were supposed to have had enough of our shocking league finishes, and attempt to salvage their investment.

Fan apathy will be through the roof this season.

Expect absolutely nothing from this club except lies and endless disappointment.

So tired I've had to edit twice.

Really weird post to make in the thread of our new £50m signing.

The funny thing is very few of the negative nellys seem to actually care whether he’s any good or not.

55m and 120k a week. Well at least theres one thing arteta learnt from pep, break transfer records and overspend on CB’s

Is there literally even one person on this forum who doesn't think he's any good?

I don’t know, but my point is his quality and ability seems to be a side issue, which is quite incredible if you think about it.

I think it's quite incredible that the standard answer to those who care about his price is usually "so what? It's not your money", like they're ignoring the fact that money isn't infinite and that there's a maximum spending number that will need to be distributed on the signings we need.

And of course there are two possible truths, either money to buy all the players we want is available or it isn't. If it is it would indeed be laughable for any Arsenal supporter to care about his price because it's not our wallet, but if it isn't then obviously those who think we should've recalled Saliba will care that we're taking 50m from what could be used elsewhere.

Even aside from all this, we're apparently very picky when it comes to CB signings. It's not exclusive to White, we have people on here not rating Varane and Kounde as well.

Yeah, but it's pretty clear that's not really the main concern for many of the naysayers. It's all about how it looks, how it compares, perceived value, the vibes etc.

I also don't see that as a legitimate reason to be annoyed. All signs, reports and rumours point to us still being in for a CM, a CAM a keeper and potentially a RB and CF. We may not sign all of them, but I find it hard to believe it's going to be because Edu can't do the sums.

I kind of meant that Edu/whoever's in charge prioritized differently than many fans rather than being bad at maths, but sure.

I think it should have become pretty clear that midfield is high in the list of priorities to improve the moment it became evident that we're selling Xhaka.

Quite the endorsement from his former teammate.

This.

I have no faith that arsenal is going to go on and spend the requisite amounts in the areas I felt we needed investment going into the new season. I'll believe it when I see it. That's the only issue I have with the Ben White signing and the money we're throwing at it. Spending even 20 million in midfield and 50+ on CB would be a mistake given squad needs in my opinion.

All of us can see us going into the season with Elneny being Partey's partner. A guy who Wenger deemed not good enough half a season after buying him is going to be our joint first choice midfielder in 2021/22.

Who is the CM we're strongly linked with? Neves? How inspiring. And it's dependent on getting rid of Xhaka, which we'll probably do for a pathetic fee.

AM? Do we want Ødegaard or Maddison, because to me they're quite different? Do we have a plan?

I'm very excited about White, actually, he looks the business. But our most critical needs aren't close to being filled. As usual.

The RB situation is puzzling. Is Bellerin off or not? Why is it taking so long? He's been linked with a move away for years now. Why is he still here when we need to sign a proper modern full back?

Pretty sure we’ll sign a decent midfielder not so sure about a right back mind.

Back to White. I recall Arteta talking about Van Dijk’s ability to pick out long passes when we played at Anfield last season highlighting how effective they can be. White has that in his locker

Looks like this will be announced today

Another tap in by the Inzaghi of journalists

It's not like this is the first time he mentions it. People need to know that this guy tweets a lot and everything isn't supposed to be some scoop. When Arsenal has announced this signing Skysports, BBC etc. will report that the signing is complete, but that doesn't mean they're just suddenly aware of the fact. It's just reporting the news.

yeah he's a guardian correspondent, so alot of the time he's just repeating news thats already in circulation. I've noticed he's started putting 'excl' if he's actually breaking an early scoop, like the kounde transfer

I’m proper chuffed with this deal. He’s about as good as they come for a centreback of his type
