To be honest, a lot of successful international teams of the past (France 98-2000, Brazil 1994-2002 to name a couple) have had some strangely mediocre players as part of furniture.

I guess you cant treat international management like a club job and just select the best players available.

I'm a fan of Larsson, but in the name of fairness you can't really put him ahead of Kulusevski on a list like this. The latter's been a semiregular for Juventus this season at the age of 20 and has every tool in his locker to be one of the best players in Europe. Larsson by contrast ended the season in great form but he's 3rd choice tops among the Swedish strikers, probably 4th, and wouldn't have gone to the Euros at all if Zlatan hadn't done his knee. He's behind Robin Quaison in the pecking order (I'd be surprised if anyone except jones knows who that even is). Something unforeseen will have to happen in order for him to get significant playing time in this tournament.

How has our former academy lad Kris Olsson been for you guys ? I have heard that he has become quite a regular in the national team.

Yeah Olsson has turned into a valuable player. He's highly rated in Krasnodar too. He went on a weak run of form earlier this spring but he should still be one of the first names on the team sheet. Very clever player with superb distribution; probably not agile enough to really be a top player, but Sweden haven't had anyone with his qualities in midfield since way back when Kim Källström was good which must be over a decade ago.

I'm going to watch the opener tonight, I'm generally looking forward to it but I can't shake off of the melancholy and disappointment from our season and the arms race we're ostensibly falling further behind in. Tierney maybe the only star to represent us.
