We want 1. We already have ESR.
Arsenal Summer Transfer 2021
I think (/hope) banduan means ESR + 1.

because injuries?
So we pay massive money for the likes of Odegaard to be back up to ESR?

Also, I think Bell is basically saying if we try to sign him he'd seriously consider us rather than saying we'd be the favourites.
The release clause is 35m.

Arteta has said he wants to play 433.

Ødegaard’s stats:

Ødegaardexcels in two areas: His passing and his press resistance.

His passing, both short to medium length, is on par with the very best attacking midfielders. While attempting 27.85 short passes per 90, 92% of those find its designated target. That puts Ødegaard in the top 1% of attacking midfielders out there.

This also extends to his medium range passes, while not in the top 1%, he manages to stay in the top 5%.

This in itself isn’t impressive. Elneny ranks in the top 3% of short and medium pass completion rate as well – though doesn’t rank very well on pogressive passing distance.

Ødegaard, on the other hand, ranks among the top 20% of progressive passes.

The Norwegian also manages to be available to put himself into spaces to receive passes – being the target of 59.69 passes per 90, in which 86.6% is received, Ødegaard sits among the top 10%.

Once he has the ball he’s also quite effective with it at his feet, when he can, he progresses the ball further up the pitch on 7.79 occasions per 90, putting him above 81% of his competitors.
Claudius wrote:That’s fine too. Then get a Grealish type for the left wing. Or get Buendia right and move Saka left.
My one worry is trying to start Pépé on the left. He’s too variable for my liking. He’s productive but causes variance in performance. You don’t want that if you want your team just dominate in a game and be able to put on runs. Think about the great Arsenal teams. They didn’t have streaky starters. Guys like Reyes were on the bench.
You don't play Pepe on the left with KT as Pepe stays wide as a winger which leaves no space for KT to overlap = it's the opposite problem to playing Pepe on the right flank with Bellerin where they both look to come inside.

I think he's a talented player but we didn't look better with him in the team. Our best form came with ESR playing at 10 and he usually looks better there than Odegaard. Odegaard just makes us even more blunt. He's a good player but he's not the player we need.
IMO he's a supporting passing playmaker who needs runners/movement much like Ozil, but with a better work ethic. Saka and ESR are more front line attacking players. I'd happily take MO in a midfield V alongside either ESR/Saka, or even in a midfield 2 next to Partey.

We could always go full AW and have 3-4 as starters with another couple on the bench.

Nope = we play 433 with both MO & ESR as #8s ahead of Partey as DLP - MO as the linking role and ESR as the final 3rd player supporting the front 3.

Sounds like a recipe for getting bullied.

We tried this last few weeks and Lartwu was clearly struggling alone. He was better with even Xhaka next to him. Just get him a partner.

Not only that but Odegaard was shit in that match too, it was a mess. Ode and ESR wanted to be in the same areas, took ESR ages to get into it too. I don't Parteys suited to the holding role on his own anyway. If we had a DM with him I'd rather he got forward to support the attack than have him sit all game.

we don't, we pay a sensible amount for Odegaard and if they ask for too much we tell em to f off and get someone else.
If we make Odegaard a priority, not only can the kid be one of the elitest players in Europe if things go well but also it will lend a nice balance to our front 4 - 2 creative players (Saka / ESR / Ode / Nelson) and 2 goalscorers (Auba / Pepe / Marty / Balo). Play a 4-2-3-1 / 4-2-2-2 hybrid shape. I know I have previously been of the view that a goalscoring forward is a bigger priority, but seeing the balance in our front 4, I am reasonably convinced this is the way to go. It is also perhaps the best way to get the best out of Pepe.
Yeah. That’s what I’m thinking as well, Wooley. He’s got great talent, is a good age.

it's what we did when ESR and Martin first started together. But it does put a big burden on them knowing where to drop in.

Perhaps, but IF he's following the MC model they use AMs/wingers as their #8s in the same shape.
AW used a startinf midfield of Denilson, Song and Febregas for most of a season, and also used Rambo and Wilshere with Fabregas, or Arteta and Cazorla with Ozil(?).
IMO if Ceballos can be converted from CAM/#10 to play CM in the 2 man midfield then I don't see why MO can't do much the same, as he's more mobile and press resistant.

I think it was the wrong time and circumstance to change the shape and roles, but it would be better with a full pre-season of training.
I'm also happy to play MO next to Partey as a midfield 2 as we've often seen MO dropping deep as cover when either Partey or Xhaka have ventured forward.

Play it like Pellgrini's Villarreal, with the twin AM playmakers starting from wide and then coming infield to create the space for the overlap by the FBs.
IMO Emery tried to do similar in his 1st game v MC when he had Ozil and Mikhi on the flanks.
