Yep. The players are following his instruction. He's patient to a fault.

Yeah, that’s probably true too. His only real change to anything tonight was to throw more attacking players onto the field. The tempo never really changed and we ended up losing control of the game, save for a few half chances.

Thinking about Leno this evening, for whatever reason. He barely had anything to do and all of it was stuff that his teammates caused. Two players nearly scoring an own goal, Partey actually getting his shot on target and forcing Leno to make a save, Bellerin handing the ball over to Moreno in our own box, Partey getting dispossessed twice just outside of it... Finding a goalkeeper that puts up with this stuff in the long run is quite a challenge.

I thought we played well in spurts, but what defined the game for me was the way we retreated into a shell every time they had a good counter. Arteta has a clear game plan but it seems has no way to motivate and push the lads to fulfill it.

We couldn't get around Francis Coquelin in their midfield. This defeat will be hard to get over.

It was expected though , I don't think anyone was surprised that we were capable of putting out a performance like that. We have seen it multiple times this season , but what I am most angry about is this tardiness in holding people accountable.

The problem is that holding people accountable means replacing them - either temporarily or permanently. Replacing temporarily requires a better alternative on the bench (which we don't have) and permanently means we need to be able to sell them at a decent value and buy / hire (depending on player / manger) sensibly (neither of which we can do). So whither accountability?

But then again you look at their team, Chukwueze was injured so a young kid came on, Paco Alcaer that limited flop striker leading the line, 33 year old ex QPR midfielder Parejo as their midfield lynchpin etc. And we went out there to try to be conservative over both legs.

A manager that we considered failed was able to easily outmatch Arteta with a squad that is vastly inferior to our own. Coquelin left us because he wasn't considered good enough to start for us. That's why people are pointing out that he performed better than our midfield, our manager is actively subtracting not adding to our players abilities. It can't be any clearer that Arteta is the main problem with our performances. Ownership and executive issues aside, this is not a squad that should be _10th and struggling to create chances against a Villareal squad that is strung together of mid-tier players.

Don’t be fooled into thinking Coquelin is anything more than a mediocre player. We were just badly coached. Yesterday was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from an Arsenal team, and I’ve seen us put up those stinkers post the 8-2 when we used to take beatings regularly
