The FA Cup wasn't as much of a fluke, the games in the semi final and final were cagey affairs plus it doesn't matter who we have on the sidelines we always do well in the competition. The EL would be a massive fluke because we looked like dogshit for at least 50% of every knockout tie despite playing mostly poor teams.

It's still not really a fluke though is it? We have looked really poor in the EL granted, but I'd say we still dominated every single one and only made things difficult because we missed sitters and put the opposition goals on a platter for them. Ultimately I wouldn't say there was any good fortune about the victories.

Agree with your general point though, it's not really something to make an assessment on. That being said from the sounds of it, it seems like they've already decided we're starting next season with him whether we win the EL or not.

That's totally believable goon but not great because i have no confidence anybody overseeing Arteta knows anything about football to make any sort of informed assessment. Add to that because of their lack of knowledge they are total cowards so rather then take the responsibility for making a decision it's much easier to leave things as they are and leave it on Arteta and the players.

It would be symptomatic of the total lack of leadership at the top is the club and why we won't be going anywhere in the next few years if that's what's going on.

That's a good point, I don't feel comfortable in Josh deciding who a good football manager is or isn't either, while god knows how much influence Edu has or if he's much more capable.

I don't see why you'd drop Holding when Mari was the one who had a stinker in the first leg.

Also agree with HomeSteak on ESR, Ode has looked pedestrian since coming back from injury.

Would have Pepe, ESR and Martinelli start behind Auba. Saka has not been anywhere near his best but will be a good option to bring off the bench once the opposition starts to tire. Agree that Odegaard's form post injury not good enough yet to warrant a return to starting line up.

It’s good that there can be a debate about the three behind the striker. We have so much quality there. Wish we had some quality behind them. Really only Partey and Tierney are up to to it.

Thats why I think people wishlisting Ode plus another non-CF attacker are mad. We have so many more pressing issues in the team.

It looks pretty good. Ødegaard more suitable for deeper role, Smith-Rowe for more advanced role. I appreciated the comparison from 1-2 users comparing Smith-Rowe's game to aspects of Grealish's game. He did some really interesting retention, dribble and lay off actions in the corner quadrant and near the touchline last week, and in weeks gone by (esp. Spurs game). I'd say him and Pépé should be the first attacking names on the sheet.

I think Elneny should play. We always lose the midfield without him. It's one more reason why going for Bissouma this summer is probably a great idea. We need that workrate and pressing in a better player.

Elneny had a decent game against Newcaslte but I just think in a game where we may end up needing to score a few goals against a team you can bet will sit back, having ESR in there to combine with Pepe and Odegaard will be vital.

It should be Xhaka and Partey in midfield but if Xhaka is moved to LB I think Elneny is the only real option to partner Partey. Which just highlights the need for better midfielders in the squad. I'd be much happier with any of Willock, AMN or Douzi to slot in there in a game like this.
