I'm not worried about a rebuild, they're clueless when it comes to buying, and when you've got 100m to spend on a bunch of B and C list players it's dangerous territory, you'll get more Lamela's and Bergwijn's than VVDs and Alissons. Hopefully Mourinho is the one to spend it too because I wouldn't trust him with the change in my pocket.

That being said, I don't think either Kane or Son will go anywhere for the sort of money Levy would demand, United are the only hope.

Kane looks like a player who'll be elbowing premier league defenders in the head until he's 35, Shearer-style. Probably a good investment for United still.

I think he’s a sharp footballer. He’s the kind of guy who won’t just have to rely on speed. He does a good job of dropping back and playing the Lacazette role better than our bloke. And he is probably getting to black belt in the dark arts at this stage. Will serve him well a long time.

We definitely need a Kane type as that profile of striker would seriously transform our attack. Someone who can hold it up, link with our creative midfielders/wide attackers and be a threat in the air. Isak, Edouard or Sima. Plenty out there who can do it and are of the right age.

Dortmund will definitely get a great return on Bellingham. He’s not just big for his age. He’s a player.

How many players have left Dortmund and been successful? I can only think of Lewa and Auba, possibly Gundogan too. Buying from Dortmund doesn’t usually end up well.

If I think about their biggest transfers in recent years, Pulisic and Dembele were fine, just really held back by injuries. Hummels and Mkhitaryan less so, but the latter was finally fine at Roma. I think what you see is a combination of injury misfortune, clubs overpaying and sometimes teams just buying players they don’t need. That’s not a Dortmund problem. That’s a buyer problem. If a club needs Bellingham they should buy him. Don’t do a United and buy Vd Beek to sit behind Fred and Pogba.

Injuries and misfortune have definitely played a part, but there's also an undeniable Bundesliga factor. It's just not a good league compared to the top ones. I've seen twerps like Lookman tear it up in Hermany. You never know exactly how players will turn out before they've tried their strength somewhere else.

Bayern have always been one of the best teams in Europe so they are somewhat exempt from this, but clubs like Dortmund whose entire ambition is to convert youth players into transfer fees will inevitably churn out a few lemons. They're just not as good as advertised. When you look at them right now you wouldn't bet on anyone except Haaland to have a really good career at a top club, not even Sancho.

Dutch and French players often suffer from the same overexposure in weak leagues relative to their talent too, which is why van de Beek is warming the bench at United right now.

So I agree with that. But look Bellingham is also able to go out and do a job in champions league against the likes of Sevilla and Lazio. He’s 17 in CM.

I've seen strikers like Immobile who scored 36 goals last year in Italy flop hard in Germany. I think your assessment of the Bundesliga is off Klaus, in terms of quality there's nothing between the big four leagues in my opinion and I watch BL and EPL every Weekend. I'm not sure when you saw Lookman tear it up in Germany, he played for a much better team than he's playing in now and of course scored a bit more. On the other hand that's like saying the EPL is shit because a learned right back like Antonio can tear it up up front for a team chasing CL spots. It's very selective and doesn't prove anything.

The Bundesliga is definitely weaker in certain aspects, or at least it's a lot easier for attackers to thrive. The difference in terms of time and space players get on the ball is so obvious. The general technical level is good though.

Ligue 1 is the worst, I can't even watch it anymore, the standard is abysmal.

The difference in terms of time and space between England and the rest of Europe is notable yes. On the other hand English teams have the worst coaches and technical level in Europe's top four leagues so it kinda evens out.

I’ve left out the top 5 battle because those will just about net out most of the big 4 leagues. But those are the clubs placed 6-10 in Bundesliga and Premier League. You’re saying Bundesliga has a higher technical level? And we can keep going down the table.

Funny you'd leave out 5th place in both leagues when you have Dortmund and West Ham sitting there.

But yeah generally speaking the Bundesliga has better football on display technically speaking, not necessarily because the teams have better players the type of play in England doesn't favour technical football. You have Lo Celso in Spurs who is by far the best on the ball they have yet he can't force himself into their first team because Mourinho would rather play brutes like Höjbjerg or even Winks. Even if he played his best players they wouldn't be as good as Leverkusen who have the highest ceiling in the league bar Bayern. Liverpool are better than Union, Everton are worse than Freiburg believe it or not watch both teams play on any day and you'll see more turnovers and sloppy play with Everton. Arsenal have a higher level than Stuttgart who are overachievers they just came up from the second tier. Gladbach piss on Villa from a great height.

Go up or down the table it doesn't make a difference. You have a team in complete disarray in Schalke granted but their normal level is leagues above garbage like Sheffield West Brom or Burnley.

One question for you is looking at the last few years, why have German teams been so weak in European competition. One would expect their technical superiority to translate into European dominance but these competitions are owned by English and Spanish teams. What explains this phenomenon?
