we've just become the club of excuses. its been a slow burn, but its become our identity. moving to the emirates was supposed to unlock everything for us. but during that period, we became the club of excuses and diminished expectations. we couldnt spend big, so wenger rationalized our 4th place finishes as a trophy, something we should be happy about. when that slipped away, the excuse was that wenger was just past it and we needed new blood. emery was a younger manager with some level of success, but when he failed, it was "well, he had big shoes to fill, and rebuilding takes time" so we move to arteta, and now he needs time. along the way, the money excuse stopped becoming an excuse, as we broke our transfer record multiple times, including spending ÂŁ70M+ on pepe, and then making regular signings of players costing ÂŁ20m+. not being able to spend was an excuse, until it wasnt. then it was we are rebuilding now after wenger left, now arteta needs time, etc etc.
15 years ago, we were one of the very best teams in europe. a few seasons removed from an undefeated league season and a CL final. now we are sitting here rationalizing how being 10th in the table isnt the end of the world, after we've been out of the CL for years. we're a club of excuses. west ham, with world class talents like....tomas soucek and...craig dawson, are 4 points ahead of us after 21 games played. does anyone want david moyes to come manage arsenal?
im just sick of this shit. its not about being entitled, its about holding the club accountable for what theve become. when fans still went to matches, they paid the highest ticket prices in the country. fans are still asked to pay fees associated with a top club, while the actual on pitch expectations have dropped to mid table mediocrity. it isnt good enough. i'll support this club until i die, obviously, but i expect a lot more than what we've become. maybe the issue is everyone else has settled in a bit too quickly into that mid table reality
