Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

ive said from day one of the post-wenger era, we have to become adept at spotting a loser and cutting our losses early. for clubs in our position holding on too long can be equally if not more damaging than sacking someone too early, and we've been doubling down on mistakes for years now and look where we've ended up. im not talking Chelsea levels of turnover, their managerial turnover is high even in the football world, but we should be closer to that model than the multi-year project model. manager life cycles are shorter, and we don't owe anyone any special loyalty unless there's tangible improvements being made. and im not talking year on year improvements - I'm talking clear improvements in a period of months. it's not as inconceivable as people seem to think it is

It's conceivable in circumstances that make it possible. Somebody's rebuild is always better than everybody's Frankenstein's monster. We haven't persisted with anyone that long, the level of impatience is frankly mind-boggling. If Arteta lasts 2.5 years that would be entirely reasonable.

Reading the opinions of some here you wonder what they base theirs on because its most definitely not history. No one said you have to sack someone if they're not soaring up the table playing thrilling football after three months. Making idiotic club damaging decisions however is a different story, why do we need to accept that as part of our development curve? You give a manager time for his ideas to work with the team, if necessary also to alter the makeup of the squad, you don't give him time for the fuck of it and endure any and all mistakes just because

If he lasts 2.5 years then what? If in a year from now we still play shit football and finish outside of Europe again then you tell him to leave? Why waste another year then? And before you talk about hypotheticals - when was the last time a manager came in and turned it around after eighteen months?

Artetas not the perfect manager if a world class manager wants to come here great. All the ones we were linked with distanced themselves.

We've not been a good CL team for a long time. We had the perfect EL manager and we couldn't win that with him.

Their was huge issues with the squad, Emery didn't sort them. Artetas come in he's not been afraid to change things. Emery left the problems for the next guy. He didn't get rid of the bad eggs and rebuild he just added people he considered to be good eggs in on top. And by the time he left by his own admission the changing room was a complete mess.

Anyone who though cleaning up that mess was going to be straight forward was super naive.

there is a big gap between world class and arteta and quite a few managers are in that gap. we would never replace a failing manager if we can only replace them with a world class option. or we'll just end up replacing them with people like arteta with no record so we can project greatness on to them.

Emery was in the gap. We tried for the top gusy they all distanced themself. We went with emery over arteta. He didn't sort the shit out. Now we've got arteta. Do were need to endless pretend he's the worlds biggest idiot? and spin every decisin into a negative. We've been top2 since christmas we've nothing to compain about really.

If we're horrible this season he'll the boot and someone else can have a go. Fans pretended everything wenger did was idiotic and got themselves endlessly hysterical about how wenger was an idiot which he clearly isn't.

All the footballers I know think arsenal are a joke not just because of our league positon but how quick the fans turn on the players and manager. They have a point.

They said the same about Pool fans, then Klopp came in and it wasn’t an issue anymore.

Fans for most clubs are a joke anyway.

At the end of the day players go where the money is and CL qualification.

Liverpool fans were generally teased for being overly optomistic, not overly pessimistic. When Klopp got interviewed by united he found it to corparte and sterile an enviroment for him. He loved the enthusiasm around the club at pool and joined them instead.

Auba, Saka, ESR, Balogun etc have all signed new deals under Arteta’s watch.

He must deserve credit for that.

Liverpool fans turn on their manager when they're not doing their job just like everyone else. That's why after Benitez both Hodgson and Dalglish were let go quickly. Rodgers did a good job and stayed there longer, and Klopp is of course still there. If you take a look at how often Premier League teams change managers and conclude with Arsenal being any "worse", if it would even be worse to change more often, I don't believe you for one second.

For Balogun someone probably deserves credit because it seemed like he had options where he could play regularly so something convinced him to stay. Unless it's just handling him a check bigger than what anyone else would give him, like it obviously was with Auba. I dont really think it was an option for ESR to leave, but good that they extended Saka before he became the profile he is now. Not sure how much credit people deserve, every job has a lot of tasks that can be expected to be done and will cause criticism if not without necessarily deserving praise when done.

I think Balogun and Saks’s agent has form for that, clearly a bargaining tool. ESR had two years left. Martinelli had two years too.

But as Quincy said, maybe Balogun aside, I don’t think any of them were ever in any danger or leaving.

TBH I think its all standard stuff. Even getting Balogun to sign is hardly earth shattering, the kids done nothing.

If you think those players are not bought into Arteta they they wouldn’t have extended.

Arteta is a lot more respected internally than externally.

there's an equal amount of balls ups on his copy book e.g. saliba, the goalie situation

getting your academy products to sign their first big deal when they're established in the first team as teenagers shouldn't be a hard sell.
