Great player at times, but he's inconsistent. He needs to get out of Real Madrid though.

Would be ok. Won’t lose sleep if he opts for elsewhere mind

feels like he's been around forever. would be a decent loan signing

Don't really want a loan when we already have Ceballos.

With Odegaard we are going to get an inconsistent player who is capable of being brilliant. I don't see the point of nourishing the pain points of his game if we don't end up being able to benefit in the long run.

Arsenal have made an approach for Real Madrid and Norway midfielder Martin Odegaard, 22. (Sky Sports)

However, Odegaard is said to be nearing a loan move to Sevilla. (Cuatro - in Spanish)

We won't get this guy. I just can't see it.

...........Gabi..........
ESR.....Odergaard.....Saka

is a forward line I'd love to see next season on.

The new M10 😆

Even if this is a loan I'd take it. I'd rather we save our money and spend properly in the summer rather than get done over in January. He's a massive talent and I think he'd be as good as ESR if not better so gives us options there.

Bell says it’s between us and Sociedad.

We can't guarantee him a starting place. I can't see why he would choose us over them. With the emergence of ESR, I can't say I'm too bothered by that.

Yes, I agree.

He know their setup and his place in that team very well. Plus Sociedad are still in running to make champions league next season

I assume if we are trying to get him here we will promise him a starting spot.

Fingers crossed. Really huge fan of him

One thing for sure, he won't be here to sit behind Emile. Guy is as talented as our own. He played quite a number of matches at CM by the way.

But you can't be letting a loanee take minutes from ESR.

Whatever happens ESR will be fine, there's no need to him to go from 0-100 in terms of appearances. The only thing I don't want is for him to be crushed under the weight of expectation or fatigue.

I watched him a bit at Real Sociedad last season and I got the feeling too that he might end up in a deeper position at some point in the future, perhaps similar to Modric.

He did play pretty deep at times at Sociedad, Ivwas surprised since he's never really done it before. I agree with you though, can definitely see it.

Sport claim he’s one step away, but they’re a catalan based paper so might not be the most reliable source. A lot of suggestions too that any loan deal for him this Jan may come with a purchase option.

That's a good shout, can see the similarity with Modric/Cazorla too.

We could even play the City midfield like what people are discussing recently with ESR and Odegaard flanking Partey.

Basque newspaper saying Madrid trying to insert a buy clause inside to sell him after this loan as they need more money to renew the squad. English media reports as straight loan only.

We'd never see a backwards pass again.

On paper that sounds like an insanely talented midfield, but we'd definitely concede a lot more goals. Would score a lot more too though, and Arteta would most likely be a great coach for someone transitioning from AM to CM.

Ffs now I really want this to happen 😆

No don't like the idea of Partey alone at base of midfield. We are better off with a defensive mid to cover Partey and then if we sign Odegaard, add him to Saka , Gabi ,ESR, Auba , Lacazette and Pepe in rotation.

Do we get a option to sign him for good? I mean, if not...a 4 month loan deal, I don't know, has not really played this season, would need time to adapt to the league to the team.

This is what I’m worried about too. Could be another Denis Suarez....

Hopefully we get an option, or maybe take our an 18 month loan. But either way, the more creativity we can get in the side the better, even two or three match winning performances would make it worthwhile.

He's a Scando - won't need time to adapt, IKEA furniture in all the gaffs

Hilarious jokes aside, serious Nuri Sahin vibes about this one

What I do like about Ødegaard is that he really excels when he's playing with clever, quick passing players. Players like Saka, ESR, Partey..

Didn't injuries pretty much ruin Sahin?

I was more thinking in terms of how we ultimately missed out on him despite it looking likely for a while

Oh right, I thought you were talking ability-wise in that it was a lot of hype surrounding Sahin when he came to the PL and he never showed that he was worth it.

And because Madrid destroyed his career.

At least they're getting loans for their fringe youngsters.

🙁

Definitely a player who can play deeper but it's a waste of some of his qualities. A bit like playing Saka in the deeper CM role that we did a couple of times before. He was still good but you don't wanna do it all the time.

I don't know if is a waste to be honest. Cazorla benefitted from it. You do have to do more work defensively, but as payment you get more space as a CM than as a CAM when you do attack.
