Maybe in the occasional game short term, and tomorrow could potentially be one of those occasions, but I think we could have one of the best left wingers in the world within a few years if he develops properly. He seems to think he should play there, Arteta seems to think so, and it's where he has always played in Brazil. I think Emery said his best position is LW too despite using him up top occasionally.

One thing I love about Martinelli on the left is how well he always links with his full back. He formed a great partnership with both Saka and Tierney. Pretty sure he'd have made Kolasinac look world class too...

Not sure if he's a good enough dribler to be a world class winger for me. He does seem to have great movement in the box, heading ability and finishing. Future striker for me if he wants it. That he's great at linking up will only help him there as well.

He definitely seems a good enough dribbler to me. Certainly better than anyone we have in the front line other than the other kids, and even then I'd say only Saka and possibly Nelson may be better.

I honestly don't see any real weaknesses in his game. He's strong, quick, has great movement and link up play, aggressive, dribbler well, can head, shoot, pick out a cross, and create for himself. Guy is pure star quality. Bonafide superstar in the making.

Him and Saka are the two guys we need to build our whole team around for the future.

His touch is the weak aspect of his game, which is probably partly why he himself feels he works better on the wing. Give him the space (that he can't quite create for himself up front) to dribble at opponents with pace and he will destroy them. Could turn into our version of Ronaldo.

Yeah I kind of see that, but even then it's still pretty good I reckon. You have to remember the kid was playing mainly EL last season and only started playing more frequently in the PL towards the end of 2019 before Arteta felt he needed some time off and benched him.

That was the time he was adapting to the League and getting used to the quick closing down of the opposition. Then Corona came and he got injured until a few weeks ago. He'll figure it out I'm sure. You can see he's that determined type that won't let anything get in his way.

He should model his game on Mbappé. Powerful on the ball. Runs fast. Turns quickly. Mbappé is unparalleled in world football in just getting onto the ball usually around 20-25 meters from the goal, to the centre or the left wing and just accelerating past / through defenders. If Martinelli is getting onto balls from Tierney and ESR, he can emulate this.

His touch his fine, it's his first touch that's the problem. Hopefully it can improve, because it can take his game to another level. I know Theo's first touch improved leaps and bounds as he got older so no reason Gabi can't get his to a good level.

He'll get it sorted Goon. If he was a player lacking in technique I might be a bit worried but looking at the rest of his game and his determination on the pitch I'm sure he'll work on every facet of his game that he needs to improve. That kind of hunger is absolutely necessary to get to the top of the game.

You look at the likes of Thierry who was one of the first in training and one of the last out every day and it's no surprise at how many levels he took his game whilst players Ng for us. Some may say Amelia was the more naturally gifted of the two but the amount of hard work Henry put in made him the complete forward. No way he would have been anywhere near as good without that.

That's not to say hard work alone will be enough but the saying hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard will almost always be true. And Martinelli, aside from his obvious talent, works hard.

Apparently it’s a front 3 of Auba, Martinelli and Pepe.

Pepe, Willian, Auba and Martinelli in the attack. Willian as playmaker/AM I suppose. I had a feeling we'd line up with mostly experience today. Willock is the only young player who starts aside from Marty. Balogun not even in the squad; not that unexpected either, although it is a little unfair.
