I can't blame him, we are sending him on loan for a 3rd season in a row, last season we fucked up his loan in the summer. He'll just want to go where he knows he'll play football. He'll probably never play for us anyway, 2 years left on his deal when he gets back, unless there is a manager change that he can convince him I think its over.
Yet another example of the club fucking up last summer in more ways than just the purge & rebuild, and we're still paying for it.
The errors made last season re Saliba's loan have been compounded this season with both the loan outside the 'English' game AND the purchase of White.
As much as I may like White and what he brings, IMO Arteta has not shown the evidence/proof to warrant that level of support to both bin off Saliba AND to spend 50m on another CB.
That said IMO White is NOT the replacement for Saliba & Gabriel is, as Saliba was a left sided CB when signed and continued to play there when on loan. Arteta wanted a left footed CB in that position for his passing game, and he wanted a ball progressing CB this summer. IMO he should not have been allowed to sign another CB when Saliba can also provide the same skills wanted, but is simply both younger and more raw.
The only justification for doing so is if regaining top4 is THE priority for the season, and we are going to go all-in in terms of our recruiting in order to do so. I know we have considerable ground to make up O(much more than the 6 points on the table would suggest), but IMO you do not spend over 100m in a financial depression just to regain UEL, and if that is your objective and/or outcome then you are doing it wrong - still.
