For what it's worth, I can understand why Dules left and I don't think it was that dumb. Up until about a month ago, it felt like the axis of miserable bastards would jump down the throat of anyone who was vaguely positive or optimistic.

Don I don't think you lot were any less miserable than the rest of us, you just directed your vitriol not at the manager but the squad or worse still your fellow OMT citizens. Most of you couldn't wait to let anyone know how Arteta's not at fault because our players are just garbage, speedy used to say he's never seen someone as basic and dumb as Pepe, Dules famously always did for the players he didn't rate like ESR Bellerin Dudsey and so on. That he left when others did the same is thin skinned or silly or whatever you want to call it its definitely unnecessary.

Hmm … I've been wavering on Arteta lately even as our form has improved. I see we're doing well now, and I'm very glad to see how well the summer signings are doing, I think each one has either been in undisputed great form (White, Tomiyasu, Ramsdale) or contributing really well (Tavares, Lokonga, Ødegaard) lately, alongside the development of some of our youngsters.

I wasn't going to bother engaging on this topic seriously, but that's an over simplistic summary that doesn't really address where the difference of opinion lie.

I think it was pretty widely accepted, certainly in my case, that we should have performed better than we had. At the same most of you guys would accept this squad needed overhaul. The difference of opinion lie in whether the latter point mitigated the former. Either way the accusations of negativity don't come from that particular debate or anyone disagreeing in good faith.

It's comes from the barrage of sarcy responses you got whenever anyone dared to suggest there might be positive signs or trends, or offered up reasons for poor form etc. I have no issues with someone taking the piss (as you regularly do Jones) but I have to admit I rolled my eyes and logged out when every other post on here was a passive aggressive 'trust the process lolz' or 'toxic positivity' or 'lolz since yesterday we've won all our games lmao'. This is what Don is referring to when he says you think twice about brothering to post anything remotely positive and why this place came across as overwhelmingly negative even though most of us were in a negative midset ourselves as you pointed out earlier.

The problem is that we haven't been good for a long time on a macro scale. We've bundled a few wins together now for the first time in a year and people expect it to just go on, which is a little naïve. Knowing Arsenal, and Arteta's Arsenal in particular, we're just as likely to take another deep dive after this international break.

I do get the point about the negativity though. It can get too much at times, but it's mostly because Arsenal drives people there. I'm trying to just enjoying our football right now because I know there's precious little of it over the course of a season that's actually good.

Things were a lot more negative during Wengers last years, and even Emery's and they were doing better than Arteta.

It's just some see hope in Arteta, whilst others don't which is why it's suddenly an issue.

For what it's worth, this is a far better summation of what I meant than my own words. This definitely reflects my experience, so thank you for articulating it for me goon! 😆

Anyways, seen that ESR has now been called up to Southgate's squad. About bloody time to be honest - don't understand why you need to put 9 defenders in your squad when you're playing Albania and San Marino...
