I saw Xhaka entering the final third down the middle and what did he do? He lumped the ball out to the wing where the play died. Do you know why? We have a large number of players who have characteristics that jointly contribute to this sluggish play. On and off the ball, all of Xhaka, Willian, Lacazette, Ceballos lack dynamism. So when we have the ball down the middle, nobody can beat a man and nobody is doing off-the-ball runs. You add all of this and that’s why we are going wide. It’s almost not out of desire, it’s the path of least resistance.
Edu needs to get rid of all of them if this is to change. And let’s try Thursday’s folks.
