Great win, first half we were really decent. Like Kel said a better front three and we would have finished that game then. Second half Utd made some adjustments as their diamond clearly wasn’t working. Having Gabriel & Partey for these away games will be a game changer for us, finally some mobility and players who will aggressively win the ball back.

Bellerin, Gabriel, Holding, Partey & El’Neny really decent today. Much deserved win, really needed it after that shocker of a game against Leicester

Watched the extended highlights. Gabriel appeared to be everywhere from what i saw, plowing into people, making his presence felt on the ground and in the air.

Interesting that xhaka was dropped. Ceballos is less surprising as he's been inconsistent this season. If mo is the best foil for partey then we should stick with that

Heccy popped up a fair bit as well. Im glad he's adjusting his style to compensate for the loss of pace, just looks a bit cannier out there

Anyone know how Or Where can I catch a full replay of this? Had to miss the game unfortunately but was pleasantly surprised by the result.

Holding is better on the ball than a lot of people give him credit for these days. Having rewatched the match, he is very confident with his passing even under pressure. Much much better than Mustafi on the contrary who always drills his passes too hard for people to control and likes to ping long balls out of play.

I think he is a very decent 4th choice. Once Chambers and Mari is back he will have a fight on his hands. Have a feeling Mari will lose out because he is left footed and the position is Gabriel's

Stats don't do the 1st half performance justice. For all MU being poor I don't think we allowed them into the game in the 1st half, and the likes of Gabriel, Partey and Elneny each played a big part in this by closing down quickly and contesting possession.

IMO we've played well in the 1st half of each of the games v MC, LCFC and now MU, but without getting the goals to show for it we become more conservative in the 2nd halves as well as the opposition making adjustments at half time. I suspect whilst we are on board with the process and plan we are still lacking in confidence as much as anything, and this is why our 2nd half performances drop off. One of these games it's going to click into place and the goals will come and the 2nd half jitters will dissipate. On another day we could have had 4 by half time and could then have played without fear.
We have our signature wins such as today and as seen previously v LFC, MC & CFC, however the 2 remaining 'needs' being a convincing NLD win, and a dominant performance and scoreline against one of the other top4/UEFA contenders for us to get our mojo back and swagger happening.

IMO we have our new CM pairing for the games v clubs from the big6 = no need for compromise in shape or roles and no need for any minders & both 'fit for purpose'. Huge performance considering neither of Xhaka or Ceballos got any minutes at all, although I think Ceballos has the capability to play more progressive football alongside Partey. I still want to see a change of shape with more numbers in the middle - possibly a 4231 rather than a 433, and with Willian/Ceballos as CAM.

I couldn't believe his fitness at the end of that match. He's usually such a stroller, hopefully Arteta can keep him playing like he did today.

I seem to remember that Basel were in the Champions League the season we signed him and that he led the stat of kilometers run per game in the group stage.

Yeah I remember that too. I used to think that having great stamina doesn't help much in a league with roided working drones everywhere but he played with some real verve yesterday, much more aggression and intent in everything he did.

Also I'm really happy with our performance but how dogshit are United and Solskjaer? Their best chance all game came from a cross that was deflected on to the post twice. Also Trashford is a good kid off the pitch but on it he's a diving piece of shit. Him and Kane spit of each other

Loved the way we bullied rashford. Some of these highly rated new guys can be nullified with just some basic planning and execution. We barely let him turn and run, and gabriel laid into him early to put a marker down. Old fashioned stuff

I don't think MU expected us to take the game to them and to be as effective in stopping them on the counter.  I think they expected us to drop off them and look to play a low block but we kept contesting the ball anytime they got around the half way line.  We turned their game plan back against them and forced their midfield back deep, and OGS' midfield selections didn't help them when we gave them no time or room.

The message going into the Molde game has to be that the 9, 10, and 11 spots are up for grabs. We are playing well but could use something different in the front line. Nketiah, Willock and Nelson need to follow up last week’s performances with another string outing. Lacazette and Willian are vulnerable, and if we go 433 an extra attacking slot opens up.
I thought Willian had good moments but there were too many bad moments. It was a bit like Pépé. Laca looks like an animal dying in the desert, buzzards flying overhead.

Yeah and he was getting really frustrated by it. Great to see.

Some of my United supporting mates were blaming a lack of effort on their part but I think thats way off. They were trying plenty hard they just couldn't match us because Arteta completely out planned Ole. We got at their weak points and nullified their strong points. We've all been praising the great performances but I though Arteta showed exactly why he is so much more highly rated than Ole.

I was just thinking during the match how good Elneny could be if we sent him to Bayern to get him roided up then bring him back as a big defensive midfield monster.

Damn  😆

At work today and all the United fans are talking about Elneny 😆 saying his pressing disrupted United play and they couldn't pass through our midfield duo. And of course everyone talked about his pressing in the last few minutes

That pressing display in injury time was unreal. Like he had taken some Klopp juice. Scared the shit out of the United players. They were blaming each other as they passed the ball out of play. Monstrous stuff. There is no way Xhaka can make it back when we have 2 midfielders doing that.

Yeah, Xhaka can’t come back after that.

The plain difference of your midfielders actually being mobile and able to press, and beat the press, was on show.

To think Arteta still has nowhere near the squad he probably wants, and you just imagine what lies ahead 🙂
