Honestly, even if there weren't serious allegations about his off-field behavior, I'd want us to be looking at external alternatives in the market. There's a big gap in quality between starters and reserves in midfield and the two that start just aren't reliable enough.

Absolutely. Whenever he gets injured we drop a level.

I'm starting to worry his passing isn't reliable enough as the Number 6 in order for us to go the next level. He had a 68% pass completion against Leicester, and 58% when in Leicester's half - that's just not going to work long-term. He has to be hitting 90% most weeks, but I fear he's too good at creative passing to restrain himself.

If I were in Arteta's and Edu's position right now, I'd be scouring Europe for the next great Number 6. Someone perfect for thst role in our system. Partey can work there in the meanwhile because he's such a good player, but I don't think he'll ever be ideal.

He had an absolute stinker against Palace away last season too before he got injured. At his best he's as good as anyone but he definitely not as consistent as Fabinho or Fernandinho.

Agreed, definitely has it in him to play on that kind of level but so far his performances have been very mixed for us. I can't see any viable replacements this late in the window but if he has another mixed season we need to look at replacing him next summer..

Also had way too many injuries for us, which is annoying as he hardly had any for Atletico! Still for us by far our best option there.

The more I watch City, the more I realise that Rodri is one of their very best players and about as important as anyone in their team. He's the perfect 6 in the system City and Arsenal play. Partey is more dynamic, but that's not a good thing.

This guy.

Defensively he’s nice. His positioning is great, and he keeps things tidy in the middle.

But his passing is so bad once the ball needs to go over 10-15 yards. Really poor stuff. Another one we should be looking to improve on in the next couple of years.

At some point it's not about form and actually a question of ability. My perception has been that his passing has been pretty wayward for the majority of his time with us.

I also think his defensive contribution is somewhat overstated

Need to lure Paulinha from a Fulham or Doucoure from Palace if either maintains their form. They’d be easy to slot in as they’ll be adjusted to the league.

I haven't seen any stats but I swear his short-medium passing was generally very reliable and incisive at Madrid.

Can't believe how consistently sloppy he's been for us.

A big upgrade on him is what we need this summer but they're so few Rodri/Busquets type players about that replacing him with what we'd want in that position is going to be incredibly difficult.

If we have a stellar season and 'fix' some of the damage done to our reputation we could try for Rice?

partey generally always played with a sitting midfielder at atletico. I didn't really envision him as a sole pivot with two advanced mids. he can do the job but you do need more consistent/reliable passing if you're going to play like this. his injury record speaks for itself as well. underwhelming signing really, as much as it pains me to say it

A "big upgrade" on Partey sounds very unrealistic. When we thought he was going to jail it seemed hard just to find a replacement that wouldn't be too big a drop in quality.

Partey was beautiful on the weekend. I definitely wouldn’t be getting rid of him for sporting reasons. Just look at the speed of ball progression he provided versus the alternatives in that position. The only players better than him in the league are Rodri and Fabinho.

We can always get an alternative to rotate him like Danilo, etc., but this restless talk of an upgrade is unrealistic

Our entire team drops several levels without him in the middle, even when he doesn't have the best of games he does loads to relieve pressure from the team. I still want him gone immediately but like Quincy says we'd do well to find anyone who isn't noticeably worse.

We definitely need to look at a replacement for him. His injuries since joining us are a massive red flag. Every time he seems to hit some form he seems to break down again, you'd assume that as he gets older that situation will most likely get worse not better. He turns 30 next year as well so definitely should be exploring options.

Top class players in his position aren't easy to come by though.

I'd convert White to play as cover and eventually take over - will be interesting as to who is used in the Cup games and UEL.
Tomi could also play in the position being two footed but in a different role.

Thing about Partey for me, and I know this has been discussed at length and led to some heat on here, but he was credibly accused of rape over the summer and a lot of material came out showing he's a waster and a rotten character. Sadly he's also a good footballer but he's someone Arsenal needs to find a way to cut ties with in my opinion, as it should with any player in such a scenario.

I appreciate that it's too late for Arsenal not to seem as cynical as it does, especially given the lack of attention to any sort of midfielder search in summer, and also understand there might be legal issues with consequences to Partey in the situation, but ...
