Mbappe was great, but what a star Marquinhos was in the first half. 4 blocked shots, 7 clearances and one goal in 31 minutes. Bayern would never have gotten back into the game if he hadn't stepped off.

Mbappé is the closest thing to Thierry I’ve ever seen.

not showboaty enough to be Titi but same dynamism.

Been enjoying the sour grapes in German media all morning. Yet to see any Rummenigge or Hoeneß interviews I'm keeping that for after lunch

They're genuinely baffled they could lose. Half of them not even because they dominated the game they thought it impossible to lose to a mercenary team like PSG. Like theyre even one iota different

When they crash out I'm going to Munich in that PSG shirt

He'll surpass him if he joins the right club next imo.

😆

To be fair to Bayern, a fit and healthy Lewa scores probably 3/4 goals. PSG were very open.

Yeah well to be fair to PSG they did not look that open until Marquinhos left and they were missing Verratti themselves who's possibly their most important player.

5 days later

Neymar hits the bar then Chuopo scores

Game on in the Bayern v PSG 2nd leg.

Entertaining stuff so far.

Bayern being ravaged by Mbappe. Neymar's finishing lets him down and the Germans grab a scruffy undeserved lead. Stoke reject again.

Annoying.

Alfonso Davies looks so shaky as a full back against the PSG tricky wing players

Neymar costing PSG here , should have been 2-0 up but now down a goal

Pretty much. Mbappé put those balls on a silver platter

I think Neymar was pretty great in the first half. Still is.

He's had loads of chances to pass and kill it but been to greedy. Lucky they got away with it.

meanwhile, sane was pretty useless.

Could be a PSG vs Man City. Battle of the oil giants. Would be an astonishing tie.

Glad Bayern went out. Cracking tie though.

Why do English commentators hate PSG and suck off Bayern so badly?

Chelsea against Real will be super interesting too

Yep, looks like he'll always be an almost player.

I’d kill for a Sane in place of Pepe.

While Sané has more control, I think Pépé is ultimately more productive. He’s our third most productive scorer and also creates chances for others. Pépé is unpredictable but you can be certain he will be involved around the goalmouth. At the end of the day, all our pretty play needs to end there.

Sane will always be more productive when given a run. He's a much better player

Right now their npxG+xA per 90
Sané: 0,55 (exceptionally high)
Pépé: 0.47 (just in top quartile)

I hope one of the things the Sheffield game reminded Arteta of is that football is a volume sport. You keep getting balls and bodies into the box, and eventually you’ll score lots of goals. This counts against Willian unfortunately. Martinelli and Pépé created goal mouth action Sunday.

I don't think we've helped Pepe out with the way we set up the team. He was at his best in a counter attacking team and getting the ball in space/transition. Sort of what Jesse Lingard has now with West Ham.

Guess what. Slavia play a high line. Lots of space in behind. I would use a similar set up to Sunday and just run at them with Pep and Martinelli

I mean they also played a high line in the first leg. We should have already done that.

Hope we learn the lesson this time round

Yep, they’ve never faced each other in the Champions League before....

Huh? Didn’t Saka alone have three of four great first half chances after we’d broken their high line?

I definitely remember him getting into the box after a Laca pass about 5 minutes in, and there was obviously Holding putting him through in acres of space too before Bukayo fluffed the finish.

Felt like a big part of our game plan was Laca coming deep then Holding playing Saka in after the line crept up to follow Lacazette. It doesn’t work if you don’t score goals, but I remember us trying it several times to pretty good effect.

Bellingham with a top class finish.

Hey Jude!!
What a beautiful shot. Get in. Fuck you, Pep

Rather Man City. Dortmund are going to get Chelsea and give them a route to the final.

What a shot from KDB while standing still. 😆 Typical of City in the CL, that.

Didn't realise Theo was that young when he started so many matches for us in UCL

Wasn't Theo signed in January and then basically first team the following season?

Can really messing up for Dortmund in this tie.
