I want to push you guys.
I think we had the players on our books to drive a better outcome today. We could’ve been more proactive and positive. We always have to ask if we are sweating our assets before we rush to market.
The players we have in any combination lose against that Liverpool side more often than not. That we've beat them twice this year is quite good, and no surprise we can't manage a hattrick.
Auba and Salah are equivalent, but we have no Fabinho, no TAA, no Joe Gomez (gotta hope for someone to come good, there), and certainly no Mane. Partey and Aouar go some way to solving that, as I don't necessarily want our main creator to be our right back anyway.
It was a fair result and an expected one. We can pull out a great performance and win now and then, but the new manager bounce is waning and now Mikel needs to find a way to get these guys passing more consistently, it's the only way to keep it together over a season. In that sense, I almost understand the Jorginho links.
I think the selection plays a role in how the game plays out, in this case. You signal something when you start all of Willian, Elneny, and AMN. Both sides sense it, and it plays out just as you'd expect. Gotta be braver, it's really as simple as that.
