Everyone talking about who to start, what about Eddie? It was quick pressing and counter attacking that undone Liverpool in our other games. Eddies a lot quicker than Laca. I feat Laca will be a little lost in this one.

Yep. Would be tempted personally to try Eddie through the middle, Saka on the right. Could end in tears but that's a risk either way. Why not give them a game while everyone else is low on form? It's not like we're expected to win this one anyway. Give the nod to the players who are hungry and want to prove a point. It was Nelson's pressing on the right that forced errors from them last time we played them in the league.

Nketiah and Pepe can't start. Nketiah is far too weak to play as a target man against Van Dijk, and Pepe is too lazy. Can't affort to have players like that against Liverpool. Saka should definitely start though. Already one of our smartest and hardest working players.

I give Lacazette a lot of grief but we cannot fault him for pressing. The man has been the main protagonist on our press, pressing until he’s looked like he will collapse from fatigue. And that pressing helped with the goals in the last league win. See the OP. Definitely start Laca for defense. What he lacks in acceleration, he makes up for in tireless harrying

Laca does well in these sorts of games. More space and more time to do his thing. Main issue is he seems to be dead on his feet by 50mins.

Except the win in the Emirates was done with solid pressing via a massive contribution by Laca. In fact he had a big part in both goals.

As much as he annoys with not scoring in high volumes, maybe Lacazette is a good example of why Ozil isn't playing. Klopp said he doesn't need a number 10 when he can apply the gegenpress. Seeing how Lacazette and Nelson worked those two goals in the league win and got us 2 goals off 3 shots is a reminder off the value of high quality pressing

I think Ozil is why Ozil isn't playing. If we had a really good number 10 who was willing to work hard and get into top condition and show 100% commitment to the team I don't think Arteta would be leaving him out. If anything I think Laca scores less because he has to drop in and do a lot of the number 10 work.

Yeah, it's not like Özil is being left out of the squad just because he doesn't fit into the system.

Other than Ozil's Ozilness. The point being that the game is adapting from exclusive playmakers and managers are finding other levers to create goals more reliably. Why rely on a guy like Ozil to give you a couple of assists a season and no defense when you can get the team to control the game via defence higher up the pitch?

We'll get space in behind so this really is the kind of game we need Pepe in. This is the best way to fit him, Saka and Auba in the team at the same time since I want Saka further forward than if he plays LWB.

I was weirdly confident about this but now that the day has come I'm left wondering what I was thinking. I know we won but we got hammered the last time we went to Anfield and it could have just as easily been a comfortable 3-0 win for them. Just hope we're competitive and can maybe nick a draw. Anything else is a massive bonus.
