I think that's fair. The main point is we don't know either way. There has also been a presumption well it has to be some really major thing because of the outcome. But that kind of reverse engineering also doesn't work. It could well be down to Arteta's thresholds being very low. So you can't call it to his benefit either.

Maybe it'll come out but as i said before if it was so bad I struggle to believe we wouldn't have heard something or an inkling given the way the media/social media is nowadays.

if auba had done something egregious, you know someone at arsenal would have run to ornstein and told him so they could have their side of it out there in the best light.

Actually, we don't. There could be a multitude of reasons from NDAs to a distaste for gossip to the repercussions why it's not coming out. Workplace politics is complex and sometimes it's better to withhold judgement.

I love when folks float theories with little to no evidence, and then they're used to further criticize whoever, as if they were fact.

I very, very much doubt that Auba was punished for getting COVID.

Ok Coombs. Fact is that Auba expressly said that his problem was with Arteta. If you also consider the cases of Guendouzi and Saliba, what do we have? Are we going to say that all cases were due to reasons other than Arteta? We just need to connect the dots

We've got one striker in decline with a lifetime of issues with his professionalism, one boisterous midfielder with issues taking instruction, one 20 year old kid who still has to learn to earn it, and a young, punitive and anxious manager whose only prior experience came at a club so stacked with established talent he probably took a few of the wrong lessons, who decided he'd pursue a stringent campaign of rules and "unity" with an overturned and young squad this season.

The ingredients for all these conflicts are there, as well as at least a couple of avoidable negative outcomes. It's actually the lack of love given to Maitland-Niles and Pépé this season that bothers me the most. Arteta seems to think he can simply stall players' careers on a whim and that's deeply lacking in insight.

If any of ESR, Saka, Martinelli enters a phase of rebellion now, that'll be the kicker.

I do appreciate that angle, it's just the industry that is in. All the athletic journos etc papers would get wind of something normally. Not the exact details but a more definitive yes there was another serious matter.

Rather then most of them saying we assume there has been something based on the outcome but with no info to support it.

They already did that in the days after he was stripped of his captaincy. Its just that people want to believe there is more to it.

I find it rich that people talk about Auba's lack of professionalism in all this too when he has done and said absolutely nothing to upset anyone since this happened. He could have hammered both the club and the manager, particularly after the move went through, but he's been nothing but respectful. Somehow that is interpreted as an acknowledgement of guilt by some people.

TBH I think when the club briefs the press against you like they did you'd be well within your rights to tell your side of the story too. This isn't an Ozil situation where the clubs on the back foot because he's taking pot shots at them over all sorts of things.

Yeah I have to say I've been uncomfortable by seeing some trying to drag Auba's name through the mud. Even if has been laid back or unprofessional, frankly that's always been in his character, from when we signed him to when we gave him a new deal, but in the absence of any real information I see no reason to assume the worst. I love Auba as a personality, all the best to him.

I don't really buy this cartoon character being painted of Arteta either or the false equivalences, but if you banish 3 players in 18 months I guess you've got to take it.

Mostly though I'm surprised why it's such a big deal. This is a soon to be 33 yr old that hasn't really been performing over the last 18 months and I suspect most people, like me, had started to feel like handing him a big deal was a mistake. Take away all the noise, this is actually a lucky break.

Not performing over the last 18 months is quite a stretch for me personally. Take away the noise: Save 19-21 million (sans 7m payout) or give ourselves the best chance of qualifying for the CL, earning that revenue, being able to bring in summer targets and facilitate renewals for star players? Of course this trade-off places a certain amount value and utility on Aubameyang, which it seemed few on here shared. This half-season at Barca should validate this. Maybe I'm naive to think that a manager should put aside differences and ally with turned 'adversary' towards achieving his ends, and then protect his principles and strike. Recollection is vague, but Eto made Guardiola look a bit silly ultimately in a scenario I think holds some parallel. edit: both prospered, so can only hope the same in this circumstances.

Manager should put aside differences if it's the best thing for the team, I'm just not convinced it is. You can theorise that having Auba around to grap a goal here or there would help in the push for top 4, and it's a reasonable assumption. But it was also a reasonable assumption that giving him a new deal was the right thing to do because he was going to continue to be awesome. It could just as easily go the other way.

Not performing for last 18 months is pretty nonsense. All the alternatives are performing worse. We have created the worst kind of openings for our strikers for the last 25 years statistically!

Is it though? Qwiss is right, we know all about Auba flying to France and taking a later flight, we know he was pissed about Nketiah being brought on before him in the game after the NLD, was it Everton? Why do people assume there are blanks to fill in, isn't that just as much of an assumption as thinking that that's all there is to it? I think it's very harsh on Auba to believe he must have done something worse to upset Arteta, lots of talk about his lack of professionalism, but Klopp, Tuchel and everyone who ever managed him says he tends to be a few minutes late and that's it. The stories we've heard fit that, it's just that Arteta has his non-negotiables (honestly, I kinda want him gone just so that cursed phrase gets erased from the Arsenal history books) and doesn't accept it. And that's the biggest difference between him and the likes of Tuchel or Klopp, they both demand a lot from their players and especially Tuchel is not known for being a nice guy in the dressing room. And yet they found a way to work around Auba's lack of discipline and got the best out of him.

I didn't say I assume there's blanks to fill in, I make no judgement, seriously.

There's rumours about Arteta supposedly icing multiple players (Saliba, Guendouzi, Pépé, Maitland-Niles and Auba all told) but only one case where it's been this fatal.

And there's rumours about Aubameyang disgracing himself while on tour with Gabon the other week.

You can readily believe that Arteta's a psycho and the reason we've not heard more about this is there is no more, but I also find it plausible some other issue might be in play—as well as the looming problem of Auba's decline. You can make up what you want, it's a Rorschach blot.

The most interesting solid data we have in the past few days is that Arsenal, Aubameyang and Barcelona all worked hard to make this strange deal happen. Arsenal because we knew it was our one best chance to cut our losses on Auba's contract, Aubameyang because he also knew he wouldn't get a favourable move after six months in at least semi-exile, and Barcelona because they're in crisis. As Goon points out it's no bad thing in purely financial terms.
