I wouldn't go that far but it defo feels like a personality clash. I suspect he was probably already pissed off about the fact that Auba was going on a personal trip. Apparently the club were not impressed by the fact that he had a big party for his kid's bday just before he caught COVID before Brentford.

Remember he claimed Auba didn't stay for the warm down after Spurs but he was in the background of ESRs post game interview doing the warm down.

I think that's a slight misrepresentation of what he said - wasn't it more that they didn't begrudge him visiting his mother given the circumstances but that they expected him to show similar courtesy (do his job) by not turning up late.

My take is that the infractions we know about are pretty minor and if that's all that's happened, then we've handled this terribly and in a very disappointing fashion. That being said, punishing him to some degree was correct (stripping him of captaincy was not) and there is a reasonable suspicion that something else we don't know about has actually occurred. I also don't think Arteta hates Auba as some are characterising - he played a big role in convincing him to stay but there's clearly something that they have clashed on here.

i personally want to see auba stay. because i suspect the alternative is that hes going to go on a series of loans where we get nothing in return

id rather see arteta go to barcelona. or mallorca. or some place far from here

Much of the takes on this stuff on the media and blog space has been that this would only happen for some totally extreme behaviour and therefore it must be that.

But just because that's what logically you might think would cause this you can't just read across like that for me especially at the moment with Arteta who I feel has demonstrated enough red flags that he's not always totally consistent or maybe great in his management.

So I don't think I would default trust his judgement as he's demonstrated enough questionable actions already for me. He's driving this now to make a big point so he's no intention of trying to support rehabilitation really.

I agree with that too. Its 2+2=5 stuff. The clubs leaked like a sieve about him so if there was more I think we'd have heard.

It is strange as another escalation action. This is another thing that has a flavour of Mourinho management style to me. To take a dislike to a player and then try to drive them away.

Fuck Auba. When a player is finished no point keeping him around. You got to be ruthless, we are not a charity. This was the problem of latter year Wenger, giving extensions to every Tom, Dick and Harry which has continued to fuck us till this day.

Ferguson got rid of players when they were at the end of their cycles - Hughes, Ince, Kanchelskis. They went and won the double the next year with a new generation of players (mainly from their youth) the next season….

suggests a loan may well suit both parties ultimately provided we can get his wages off the books, as the alternative is he is more likely to depart as a free agent and we get nothing in any event. If we can get his wages off the books they can then be redirected to new signings, as can the wages for the likes of Laca, Pepe, Kola etc.

I think the position of moving players on when they are finished would have more support of xhaka wasn't still here and we extended his contract or elneny. Two players we've know for a couple seasons aren't good enough
