Even if you were right, you're disregarding that there's no selling Auba now. We made that decision in the summer.

auba looks like hes taken his foot off the gas and has been coasting for most of the season

if we are going to play with 3 attacking mids behind a central striker, i think we need a striker who is a bit more complete. who is stronger, can play centrally and make intelligent runs to create space, and who is clinical in front of goal.

right now, id be playing odegaard at 10, ESR and saka on either side of him, and then a better striker in front of them. auba is the guy for now because hes the club captain and on huge wages. martinelli might take that role eventually, but i think we'd be better off selling both auba and laca in the summer and buying a more traditional central striker.

You sure you don’t want Laca? He does this novel thing where he’s had several games this season where he’s played striker and hasn’t taken a shot. Why wouldn’t you get behind that kind of innovation?

Auba is decent now he's back trying. But for the first half of the season he wasn't bothered. Which given he's the captain and on 350k per week is deeply concerning. If he keeps trying were fine.

DB10 and Henry scored and assisted and were brilliant for the team. Ade just scored a lot of goals I know which I'd rather have. Unmotivated Ade was a car crash in the same way unmotivated Auba was for the first half of the season.

Keep laughing at Laca but he has scored joint number of goals as Auba in prob less games (havent checked). Also, Laca continues to produce in the big games yet gets no recongition.

Laca has worked his butt off in all game this season. Cant say the same about our captain. On the whole, Auba has sulked the place out this season but ppl would rather give it to the guy that gives 100 per cent whenever he plays. Who is the better professional? I leave that for you to judge.

I can't remember the last game he offered anything to the attack when he wasn't on the score sheet.

Not sure what Arteta was hoping would happen differently this time by trying the Laca-Auba experiment again. It just does not work.

It felt very much like he wanted to start Laca up top (rightly so) and then just wedged Auba in so as not to make it a big deal after last week.

I suspected the same. There is something about Laca holding the team together nicely when we play the wizards behind. But Auba was a complete spare wheel at right wing.

Auba was just poor, you can see he went into his shell.

The indecent at WHL is a real shame because he was just hitting some good form, in the last couple of games though he's looked really uncomfortable again.

I don't really buy that he isn't trying, it's just a confidence issue. He got to plenty of chances against Olympiakos, that alone is proof that he's trying unless people think he didn't bother putting them away.

He was definitely trying in both of these games. As you say Quincy, he had lots of chances in Piraeus. And today he did run up and down the field. He just lacks sharpness. And he is not the only one. He does attract a specific criticism. I think fans are reflexively antagonistic towards well paid players. They expect them to do Roy of the Rovers shit every week

Its pretty obvious his confidence is shot. Its not unusual for forwards to be reliant on their confidence and Aubas has been shot to pieces this season, every time he looks to be getting back into form it gets shot down again.

You could see the joy on his face when Laca scored the third whilst he was off the pitch. To say he was sulking or wasn't trying is being a bit disingenuous. He's low on confidence and possibly struggling to work himself into games like Laca does because it's not his natural game to link up play and be a wall to bounce balls off of to the players behind.

If we want him to continue up top we need to alter our buildup patterns to be more vertical rather than side to side. He just doesn't suit the back to goal type of football that he's being asked to play. Which is why he's looked better on the left where he has space to run into the channels and find space.

I just wish we'd reduce the need for him to keep dropping deep to cover the fullback and instead be positioned high up the pitch on the left where he can cause real damage.

if we buy another mid that can cover alot of ground defensively, then i suspect it will relieve a bit of pressure on our wingers

tbf... kinda what they're paid to do.

I do think he isn't hiding. But perhaps we just play him CF from now on or don't play him at all.

Yeah but that isn’t Auba. He isn’t joint to take on 100 guys. He’s a finisher. He needs volume of chances. He’s going to miss a lot. This happens to all strikers. Watch Kane, Salah, Mané etc. These guys miss a ton of chances. They just keep shooting.
