As we have such a rich and illustrious history I thought it would be good to look back on certain dates when we’ve had major victories, major signings and even massive disasters.

On this day in 2013 we signed Mesut Ozil! I remember thinking at the time that this was the most surreal Arsenal signing of all time - and I lived through us signing Bergkamp (who was a world star back then). I still couldn’t get my head around the fact we signed a) a Galatico in his pomp from Real Madrid of all clubs b) Wenger spending more than £30m on a player (I think at that time Reyes (RIP) was our record signing at like £17m) and c) signing one of the best players of the previous World Cup!

Shame it all ended in tears :-(

A lot of it ending in tears was our own fault, at one point we had Ramsey/Ozil/Alexis playing behind fucking Giroud!

Summer of 2015 is where it all went wrong when we only signed Cech.

Neat idea though we already sort of have this in the Arsenal Reminisce thread.

I don't think anything will ever top the day Ozil signed in terms of transfers.

Oh, I don't know. I would say that the Arshavin (llama) transfer saga and discussion was one of the more epic ones we had. But its true that Ozil's signing was way more out of the blue and unbelievable.

Arshavin was more dramatic and fans were going crazy about his signing. Literally the hottest property at that time in the market

Arashavin can’t be beaten for drama, but in terms of profile Ozil was something else, at least for me.

I’m just glad the transfer era of Wenger and Law is over. Everything feels more orderly right now.
We have a back four that makes sense on paper. When last could we say that? We have a bunch of kids being nurtured properly. The central midfield needs work but the noises in the market suggest we are trying to address it

Good thread Sicario!

The Özil transfer was like playing Monopoly at the time. Didn't feel real. A lot happened in that window and it felt like maybe, finally, the statement of intent we'd been crying out for. We subsequently fucked everything up and now I loathe Özil, but I think I can still recapture that feeling.

One of my favourite bends on the ball ever. That one and the freekick Mikael Nilsson scored for IFK Gothenburg against PSV Endhoven in the 90s where he literally bent the ball around the wall always spring to mind.

Yep that was the big mistake. Got distracted by Suarez and ended up with the opportunistic signing of Ozil instead of either.

To be honest we didn't target Ozil. It was Ancelotti that pushed him out. We wanted Di Maria but they had a change of heart. How history would have changed, they wouldn't have won the UCL that year without Di Maria.
