Correct me if I'm wrong (probably am), but didn't be basically shit on the team in the media when he was at the ECs by blaming the quality of his team mates for us finishing outside UEFA? IIRC he said that he always gave 100% and always did his job - it came across as if he was saying he was blameless and was looking to move to a better team as a result.

For mind it seemed like he was deliberately burning his bridges so there was no way to go back, as he'd be considered a toxic impact in the dressing room.
IMO his comments also shat on Arteta after he backed him after the Palace incident.

For fuck's sake somebody have mercy on us. Literally the main reason why I was excited to watch Arsenal next season was because there'd be no more Xhaka.

I even had that horrible nightmare last year about Edu extending his contract. Please someone make it stop.

Yeah hopefully they're calling Roma in a game of transfer chicken.

IMO this is why if you have funds you get you players in ahead of frakking around with any sell before you buy, as it gives clubs the idea you need to sell to raise funds and they think they can low ball you.

Makes sense that Arteta would want to keep him. He values experience and isn't going to replace someone like Xhaka with someone like Guimareas.

Depressing if the stories about him after true. Arsenal need to get rid of players like him to move forwards. While he's here it signals to be the club haven't left behind the mistakes of Arsenal of the past 15 years.

We just need to cut our losses then, not offer him a new contract. On improved terms, if the reporting is to be believed.

We can't even sell him for spare change in the present. How are we going to monetise him when he's thirty?

It is what it is, we're not going to get any substantial money for him, but if he's going to stay we can't offer him a new contract, let alone one with improved wages and bonuses for him. It'll only end up costing us.

It's not like we haven't stepped on this rake before. Wouldn't put it past us to make the same mistake we did with Özil and Cedric.

Because it's a depressed market right now, I reckon. Look, I want to be rid of Xhaka as much as anyone else but I think we need to be pragmatic about our options.

Besides, I still think there's a good chance we'll shift him this window so let's see where we end up at.

Exactly. No 2 ways about it.

We are absolutely hopeless if we offered Xhaka and Bellerin a new contract. Fingers crossed they rejects it.

4 year deal with pay rise signed. He is 29 in September so he will probably retire here or go back to Basel when his contract expires at 33.

Remember when he said it would be a dream to play for Roma under Mourinho. He even called Mourinho to inform him that he is signing a new deal here 😆
