Don't understand why people are looking at Chambers unfavorably. He was good before the injury. Only downside is that he's yet another defender who's perfect for 3atb which I assume we want to move away from. Still, both Holding and Sokratis should no doubt be moved before Chambers.
Arsenal Summer Exits 2020
He might have played too little this season to really convince people, but that was Emery's fault. Agree he's been good though. To my mind he was much better this season than Holding was back in 2018, and he's got a couple of seasons of regular Premier League football under his belt despite only being 25. He's the same age now as Koscielny was when we signed him. There's plenty of talent in him to work with if he can make a successful return from injury.
He’s actually one of the few who might be able to play under Arteta. He’s ahead of Holding and Sok in this regard. Eager to see how he fares. But it will be a long road back. Feel for him
Unbelievalble that chambers has been around for 6 years.
How time flies- The summer of Alexis, Debuchy, Welbeck etc.
It was the last time I was truly excited by Arsenal. I thought that when we signed Alexis, we really had moved into a different league. The start of that season had the 2-2 vs Man City as well, with both Wilshere and Alexis scoring brilliant goals.
And we thumped City that same month 3-0 in the CS.
That season wasn't that bad. We dropped plenty of stupid points if not we would have finished comfortably 2nd.
And should really have made it much further in the UCL.
Its the summer after that that started the big demise of our club with the Cech signing
Summer 2014 was the end of Wenger's Arsenal IMO. They had the core of a great team in 13-14 and finally ended the trophy drought, but they couldn't follow it up with sound investment. Gabriel was a decent talent but a terrible complement to Koscielny and thus a stupid replacement for Mertesacker. They let the brilliant Sagna go and replaced him with Mathieu Debuchy, what a disaster. They went a SECOND season with Mathieu Flamini, barely a Premier League caliber player by that time, backing up an aging Arteta. And Welbeck at a time when they needed a real striker... don't even get me started. Alexis was a great talent but I don't think he ever fit that team or Wenger's Arsenal. There seemed to be no real vision of the team -- perhaps the consequence of the disastrous shift to StatDNA as Wenger was losing his advantages in identifying and signing talent from French football.
And then of course Ramsey and Wilshere having their careers destroyed by injuries was the end of things. It's a real shame that Arsenal didn't win a title or two with that group from 2013-16.
I don't think I've ever been the same fan since the loss to Monaco in the CL 16s. That was when you knew Wenger was never getting back to the top, that he was done and it was time to move on. The dream of a triumphant third act for the big man was over.
That Monaco game still hurts. That was the final straw where I think everyone realised just how far off a top striker Giroud really was. At least Bendtner was not a regular player either of the times he knocked us out of Champions League.
The final nail of the coffin for Wenger for me was weirdly when we lost to Bradford on pens
Was that game where Gervinho missed an open goal ?
Lol.
There are so many of these last straw games over the years. That’s the story

Only live CL game I ever went to. Never have forgiven Giroud since.
Never really had faith in Wenger to adapt, but I was done after the the 2008 game against Birmingham in the league
The way we handled it was absolutely shocking
After the Birmingham match in the league cup final 2011, I was done done.
Everyone knew how Birmingham we’re going to play apart from us. No flexibility, no cleverness, and even sticking just to plan A was not good enough when you execute Plan A at 25%
Still furious at that match. Never mind all the shellackings we received afterwards.
I can still feel the anger from the Monaco game. Was angry with Giroud but also the brainless Gibbs. I challenge you to rewatch the match, Gibbs was so fucking bad it was unreal. Everytime the ball went through him it was dead. The disparity of his football intelligence and Monreal is so big, I can't believe he played so long for us

There’s a reason Gibbs been playing in the championship last 2 years. No doubt he will be MOM when we play his team next season though.

I don’t know this player, erased him from my memory.
(Yes I believe he did).
P.S: I swear our team now is better than the 2012/2013 one.

Where can I see the full match? YouTube highlights aren't focusing on that irrelevant full back, lol.

They definitely should be moved before him. He's coming off a bad injury and while he's has had the odd good performances here or there I'm not entirely convinced he'll make it here.
The Monaco game was infuriating. Perhaps only behind the 2-2 Birmingham and being knocked out by Liverpool in the CL.
I thought the drubbing by CFC for his 1000th match was the perfect illustration of how far he & we had fallen off the pace and were no longer relevant.

More than some.
Lacazette linked to Juventus in swap deal. I wouldn't really want any of their guys. Can Kia find a way to earn his cheques with a 3 team trade?

Same paper lists Ramsey as a Juve exit. Wonder who would take him on.
I'm very doubtful that without so much as a training session to go on, Pirlo has decided to chuck all those guys up for sale.
What's it been, 24 hours? 48?
That info has been made up or has come from a third party.
I would take back Ramsey on a free.
No one is going to pay his wages and throw a sizeable transfer fee on top. Juventus are better off, just letting him go and freeing up wages.
I did like Douglas Costa, but with the wingers we have now, would he be worth it?
Also, we should be selling Lacazette, unless in a part swap for Partey.

Maybe Pirlo has been in the background just waiting for his chance, and the club already knows who he rates along with the DoF?

He'd probably have given a perspective in his interviews. Remember how Mourinho arrived with 80 page decks for his interviews. So his ideas might have been leaked by naughty insiders. Or it could be a reporter filling his daily 100 words with whatever enters his imagination

Costa looses intrest after 6 months at a club. He could ahve been insanly good if he wanted. He's just not work the risk.

I agree with you, he never reached his ceiling. When on, he is unplayable but his consistency and staying fit have always ben problems
Costa is the definition of highlights reel.
1 league goal each of last 2 seasons.
I would rather sell Holding but if this is to happen, we should really ask for more.
Chambers fits artetas model more than holding. If we do sell, it should be closers to 20m
Was our best defender (I know the bar was low) until the injury. Would rather keep but that price seems crazy low.
Yeah. He can go if a good offer comes in not least because of the ACL and how it might impact him, but £12m is pointless in this market.
Gazza M wrote:Chambers fits artetas model more than holding. If we do sell, it should be closers to 20m
I agree, around £20m and we should look to sell.
Think we need to sell both really and maybe reinvest in another young CB. Chambers definitely has shown glimpses of becoming a player but I've also seen plenty to suggest he won't.
How is he worth 24m 2 years ago and now depreciated so badly?
In the middle of an ACL injury to be fair. Did someone bid 24m two years ago?
Palace on deadline day IIRC
