No one said refs in Europe are great. Barcelona have been bailed out plenty as have Madrid and others, all have had big decisions go against them wrongly. Its no comparison to the garbage served up in England though why do you take exception to that claim when everyone can see it? Bruno has been in the league for like thirteen months and has had about twenty penalties so far I'm not even joking.

I think we lost that leg 3-1 without having a single shot on target. Not sure if we would've won the tie even with 11 players on the pitch, that was the game where Bendtner's touch of a leper cost us everything right?
Still one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Not even Barcelona were calling for a booking I recall and they used to do that for every fart in the ref's direction. Don't think CL games of that magnitude normally get fixed but if there are any this call has to be one of them.

It's certainly the hardest decision to justify. From the wrong angle some fouls look really bad, and its easy to get something like an offisde call wrong. I think his adrenaline is high and he acts on impulse without any thinking. And once the cards gripped theirs no way back. I think refs in rugby, when they explain decisions they talk through it out loud and i think that actually helps their reasoning in a huge way. And helps slow things down to prevent emotional impulse decisions in big moments.

That Barca game and the 4-4 one against Newcastle where Phil Dowd was their 12th and 13th player are the only times I've ever genuinely felt that we were on the wrong end of match-fixing activities from some betting syndicate.

That was the worse ref preformance I've seen in my life. If it was fixed he would have made life harder for us early in the game. The guy gets completely caught up in the romance of a big comeback and orcastrates the hole thing himself.

We need VAr to be able to sub the ref if he looses the plot or just have a ref thats less prone to being nuts in the first place. I'd imagine when they reviewed his preformance they said you could be have fairer here but its "great for the league".

Apparently the Premier League have written to clubs asking if they have any suggestions as to how to improve the implementation of VAR next season. Here's one, get someone competent behind the monitor, and more to the point, someone competent at the head of PGMOL.

I would say split decisions into 2 groups to set the resolution times. Offsides and penalty box incidents

offsides: try to work with Uefa to simplify the offside rule. if you have a very simple point of reference, e.g., players' legs in 2D then you can set a rapid response time for offsides, e..g, 10 seconds. I think this is important given the high number of offsides per game.
penalty box incidents: encourage match officials to actually go to the monitor for these and take responsibility for making their own decision.

I thought about it after they fucked us at Burnley the other day, and I googled it, this prick has been the manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited(what a shit name) since 2009. How do you stay in a job for so long when it's so clear that you are shit at it? I mean the level of referring has been lower and lower each season. What, he has no boss that he reports to? Nobody is asking him what the fuck is going on, what are you doing to improve things?

It's not just him HomeSteak, look a the whole board of that organisation, it's made up of old retired referees who got the job by default. They're all old pals, not a hint of accountability.

Exactly, the organisation structure itself is predisposed to incompetence at best or corruption at worst. The reason I'm still in favour of VAR is that it's going to be harder and harder to ignore that refereeing here is genuinely bad. There are one or two decent ones but the majority ruin football for me.

they are defensively super solid and Emi controls his box well. It takes real quality goals like the one Newcastle scored to hit them.

So letting 'em score early as they did basically doomed us.

Nightmare run of fixtures for them too but I don't think Grealish and Barkley played against Magpies the other night. If we hadn't continued shooting ourselves in the foot (even since Feb), we'd be in the running for things.

Edit: and of course, scandalous unforgivable atrocious refereeing.

Yeah. It’s annoying that Villa and Liverpool are doing their very best to finish below us and we are just stuck. It would be great for Mikel and co to turn their decent performances into actual points on the board. Else the Grim Reaper will eventually catch up with him.
