I think there's value in them on the pitch too though. Most of the money we get is probably going to get reinvested in more Luizes and Willians and Cedrics anyway; players no one actually wants, who have lousy peak levels and no potential upside in the future because they're done developing and are regressing physically. I'm fine with keeping some youth products around for a while instead to see what happens when and if they push on. Who talked about Jack Grealish and Dominic Calvert-Lewin a few years ago? Basically no one.
Those guys aren’t Jack Grealish.
Do you ever look at stats charts? One thing that becomes apparent quite quickly is that exceptional players just stand out from the rest of the pack. It’s not just on the edge of a large scatter of data points. They look like outliers, with most other players clustered together quite close.
Basically, most Premier League level players are very good but in a similar way. You Can easily exchange them for each other. But the few edge cases are what you want to acquire and accumulate to make your team really strong. There is no sense in getting married to the unexceptional players. If you can trade th em to improve your squad quality, do it. You can always replace them no problem. So do t trade away a guy like Saka or ESR. But these Willock and Nketiahs. Absolutely if it helps us get better talent.
