Yeah, feels like clubs are struggling to contain the outbreak now. They did a pretty good job until recently.

I read today that they're going back to testing twice a week. I have no idea why they eased off in the first place, especially given how sharply cases have been rising for the best part of a month. Unreal complacency.

No thanks - the hierarchy of who gets the vaccine should be based on need, not any other criteria.

Wouldn't blame them if they postponed games for a while. Generally speaking, the UK government isn't sending out the right indicators to get people to take things seriously despite the obvious surge in cases and NHS being overwhelmed.

Er, folks need to stay home and stop congregating everywhere. Vaccinating 500 footballers and the support ecosystem around them goes a long way to motivating millions of people to stay indoors and not be at the pub. These frequent double headers of football go a long way towards filling time. This is different from making the vaccine accessible to random billionaires just because they’re rich.

There's two issues here as I see it:

If you vaccinate footballers before the general public, why stop there? Why not vaccinate actors and actresses so they can produce more film/TV to watch. Even if it's not directly about wealthy, you effectively then have a monied elite who get favourable treatment. Personally think vulnerable people's lives are more important than having something to watch on TV (and don't get me wrong, I'd love to have season three of Mindhunter to break the tedium but there are bigger issues right now).
Secondly, my experience of the response to lock London down for Christmas has been that plenty of people didn't take the guidance seriously. Infection rates are soaring to levels near the peak of the first wave and the NHS is suddenly at capacity again. Plenty of people are missing out on essential treatment as a result. Personally, I believe that for people to see that the rules don't apply to sportsmen/women so that they can play sports sends out the message that we're not in a serious situation right now despite the fact that we have as many people dying as when we were in lockdown the first time (when football was cancelled).

All subjective, I appreciate just my two pence.

If that was true there wouldn't be games getting cancelled this week. A lot of players are clearly not taking things seriously.

That said.. we’d also said injuries were his big issue 🙁

Yeah definitely. But among the Liverpool players he doesn’t stand out all that much.

The Premier League has not discussed pausing the season and has no plans to do so.

The League continues to have confidence in its COVID-19 protocols to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled, and these protocols continue to have the full backing of Government.

With the health of players and staff the priority, the League is also fully supportive of how clubs are implementing the protocols and rules.

A two week break would probably be good for the fitness and well-being of players, so many injuries this season. In terms of COVID I think their measures have held up well, no sign of transmission on the pitch and generally very few players testing positive.

The fact that Carlo Ancelotti was picking him in his "dream" team of all the players he managed actually says alot.

This is a guy who’s managed Milan, Real, Chelsea and Bayern. He wasn’t short on options

He will be the player we talk about 10 years later then never really peaked because of his injuries. Don't think we will ever see the best of him consistently although he has won everything that he needs

BTsport pundits team of the year so far.

Martinez, Justin, Robertson, Bruno, KDB, Son, Salah pretty much unanimous. Can't argue with that at all. The rest of the positions really up for grabs.

I would put Fofana, Gabriel, Grealish, Vardy in the rest of the positions.
