I wasn't drawn in by that transfer, in fact I called it poor value at the time. don't feel that way about grealish

£80m for a guy who hasn't scored double figures in his career. Very similar to Zaha. These guys get massively over rated and the prices bulk up.

Because there aren’t any £80m midfielders that would lift the team as much as Grealish would

If we can get Grealish who is a better player than Pépé etc, I would get him. Go look at underlying stats for attacking midfielders. Grealish is always at the edge of the stats. He is a nightmare for defenders in terms of progressive dribbles and passes, and progressions into the box. You want players who create chances.

He'll be better next season, regardless of the manager. He's had a rough start to his Arsenal career, and the PL is just a different ball game. Sky isn't falling on him yet.

I've said elsewhere IMO we also need to address the attack in terms of tactics/style and/or players.

As for Grealish = atm he's the very definition of a luxury player for me, and despite how much I'd like to see him with us I'd first spend the 80m to get both MO and Buendia (Grealish lite?).

EDIT - this article is mainly about a different potential transfer target, but the numbers for MO show he should be a priority and key addition to our play, and IMO could potentially play as part of a midfield V or even as DLP in a supporting role through the middle and attacking 3rds as he is 'press resistant' and would greatly improve our transition.

I've been watching Atalanta since I gave up on Arteta , Gasperini's team made football watchable for me . They have their weaknesses because they can be a bit too gung-ho at times but I don't care . They take every opportunity to attack and create chances , polar opposite to what we are doing .

Most watchable team in Europe. Look at how they pass quickly. Are able to switch play rapidly across the back. And are constantly looking to build through the centre and then spread again once they get towards the penalty area. Everyone is active, passing, moving with the ball. It’s football

What do you reckon Gasperini's squad cost relative to the one Arteta has at his disposal, Claude?

Maybe you can't go all the way with such a thin squad, but you can absolutely play good football with modest resources if you're a good manager. I'm the oposite of GooneriC, I used to love watching Atalanta, but it just makes me depressed now watching others get it right where we're stuck with such a fucking negative nancy. Artetaball has killed all my interest in football.

Given that we won't be in Europe , I wouldn't mind the size of our squad if we had Gasperini in charge..I like a manager who will play his best available team and players in their right positions and absolutely go for it. Let the side we are facing worry about how they will stop us. It's that simple.

I think his total squad cost is probably 80-90m pounds. Will take a look. We are likely in the 300-400m pound range. Our team is a squad building cluster, and Arteta is an inexperienced coach.

I think Gasperini stands out. There aren’t a million managers doing what he is doing. He coaches incredible football, and recruits extremely well. For example, I don’t watch Tuchel and think “he coaches a more exciting attack than Arteta”, and the numbers confirm it both in terms of actual goals and expected goals. In our league, only Guardiola, Solskjaer and Potter are doing better on offense both visually and numerically (Potter just slightly worse numerically).

They've now scored 90 goals with that team and conceded 45 in Serie A, currently 2nd. A proper madness.
