We've recalled Miguel Azeez from Portsmouth due to a lack of playing time. Seems like he's had a pretty poor loan overall. Some Pompey fans on Twitter reckon that he was way out of his depth both technically and physically in League 1. The technical comment is both surprising and worrying. Never thought he had much of a future in the first team based on what I saw of him in the U23 to be honest, but still.

Gnabry had already broken through at Arsenal though. The question was always whether he'd be able to come back after all the injuries.

The comment about his technical ability is obvious BS, he has technical ability pouring out of his arse. The issue from what I've read is his intensity levels and his game off the ball, as someone who dropped deeper relatively late in his development it's probably still in need of refinement.

But on the ball it's clear that he's got bags of talent:

He just played 90 minutes back to back and got an assist, didn't he? Starting to play more and more. Surely we aren't going to use him to make up numbers in midfield?

Bang on. Not just Gnabry, ESR went from being loaned to a CL team to joining a Championship side, players at this stage develop at different paces. He's got loads of ability on the ball, just need a good loan to work on it. How does this continue to happen when we've signed a guy to do nothing but find appropriate loan clubs?

Seemed that way but hasn’t played in the league since Dec since then I don’t think - but odd.

Gnabry was just one that got away. Can't remember anyone predicting his trajectory at the time he left Arsenal. We knew he was exceptional, but he seemed to have a lot of drawbacks.

Yea feels like some odd decision making by Pompey, unless they only ever intended him as backup.

In the sense that he has shown some silky skills in the U23 maybe, but people who have watched him in League One obviously disagree. The definition of technical ability has to be that your ball manipulation is able to give you an advantage during a real competitive game of football, otherwise you're just a futsal player. It might be the case that he's just not there yet physically and that's why he can't assert himself, who knows.

Good performance from the reserves tonight as they beat Bournemouth 4-0 in the PL2 cup.

Apparently, Hutchinson, Flores, Biereth and Henry-Francis were the standout players.

I like Biereth. I have no idea where his level is, but he's surely going to be a professional footballer in some capacity.

His touch is consistently superb. Have a sneaky feeling he will make it here.

He does look tidy but Flores is the one that looks exciting to me, has that combination of being technically accomplished and lively that's always exciting to watch. It's a great sign that he's scoring goals so quickly after his introduction to the U23s.

Plus there's no way you can do whatever the hell type of flip this is during your celebration and not be brilliant at football:

Yeah he's my pick of the bunch too. When we signed him a lot of youth watchers raved about him being a huge huge talent.

I like his football intelligence as compared to his peers. Makes everything looks simple.

flores and hutchinson need to stop doing flips. it's like really embarassing if you hurt yourself knee sliding or flipping. "i coulda been a contender, but i snapped my achilles doing a celebration flip."

Loved Flores since I first saw him in the 20/21 season. Kid looked so intelligent on the ball playing that hybrid left back/left wing role. Think I must have mentioned him a few times in the past but I reckon he's got a big future ahead of him here if he can fill in a bit. The technique and intelligence in his game is, as AW would say, top top quality.
