Our problem is not just the excuse culture or the lack of ambition or even that we are reactive and not proactive. Not only is it all 3 in equal measure, but it's also driven by this ideology of traditional values and our self sustaining business model.
TBH I don't think our BoD have had any desire or direction to do anything more than to sustain our capability to be self reliant. Their first instinct when that seems threatened is to close up shop and look to cut costs rather than to make core changes as to what we do or how we do it.
AW's strategy for each season was based around maintaining our points tally so as to maintain top4. Even when we dropped out he was talking about only needing to regain 1-2 points to have finished ahead of LFC in 4th.
Unfortunately those principles and ideologies are exactly what drew KSE's interest in the first place, and PHW's selling of the club as being self sustaining meant KSE would not need to get involved.
For want of a better description where the club calls us self sustaining I call us minimalist, in that we only do the very least that is required to sustain the status quo in our favor. We do not go the extra yard in anything, and the club did not require the players to do so in order to not then be held in account themselves.
That and we are always willing to compromise to reduce our expectations on and off the pitch.
