This thread is less for the news about inept politicians but more for ideas on what to do if you're self isolating. Read one of them books, do jailhouse workouts or yoga, house cleaning, cooking ideas etc pp.

I've only tested the German equivalent of it but it seems many providers offer at least part of their stuff for free at the moment, some pretty useful like Microsoft Teams, fitness apps if you're into that or Canal+ which offers all content for free as long as the French curfew is active. Disney+ gives you even six months free but I doubt that's true for everyone.

On a serious note - I need to figure out what I'm going to do to exercise and stay active.

Thats the one issue for me too Mirth. I stopped going to the gym on Sunday after concluding it was selfish and unethical. I'm still thinking I may go at 6 or 7 am when there are fewer people. Right now I am trying not to overeat and doing interval training inside with lots of time for yoga.

Are you folks now regularly using surgical masks while out in your neighborhood?

I figure, since there's such a shortage of masks, I'd rather it stayed with the hospital/front line staff but then I have no pre-existing conditions.

There's plenty to do at home without any additional weights or equipment. Look online for bodyweight exercises or jailhouse workouts, there's basic stuff like push-ups or sit-ups or more advanced like pistol squats or burpees. The second link I posted also had plenty of fitness apps

I’m reading books. Have a million of these mofos around the house. Might as well get it in getting through one called “Built to Last” now but want to do some fiction after.

Got a fat reading pile I haven't yet tucked into. Part of my plans too. However, did manage to get into my bank of past webinars/podcasts to watch and listen: Things like MEASURE, CGD, Development Drums.

LSHTM will be have some decent public health, pandemic related content in the next month I'm sure. Past ones here:https://vimeo.com/lshtm

There are also some short courses one could tick off in a week or two on FutureLearn, edX, Coursera etc.

I'll be reading Nikolaos van Dam - Destroying a Nation: The Civil War in Syria. I'll probably be ready to join jihad at the end of this curfew

I'm about to start Naomi Klein "On Fire", I hear the conclusions are a bit lib but I want to read it anyway.

This is one of the few times it doesn't suck to live in a place where I'm pretty much surrounded by cornfields. I can go for an hour walk with my dog usually without meeting a single person. I've also used the situation we find ourselves in as an excuse for me to buy myself the new Jabra Elite Active 75t 😆. Can't run without music. I'm also thinking of playing through some of my giant backlog of free games. If you're like me and always download the free PS+ games and don't get to actually playing them, here's a list of some of the supposedly best ones we've gotten the last couple of years:

Slightly regretting selling off my mostly unused PS4 because I couldn't be bothered playing it.

I'm planning a co-read of the Neapolitan novels (Elena Ferrante) with a couple of friends here if this gets going.

Those Jabra earphones are awful 😆 had a listen once and they're terrible for €200+, resolution is worse than with <100 cans and the signature is terrible. I guess if you're not that much into audio quality and just need something to take for a run they're OK but for that price you can get much much better wired IEMs.

Don't want wired. I'm open to other suggestions, but in order to call it terrible for the price I'd need an alternative with the same features, the most important of which are IP57 ceritifed, wireless and preferably a comparable battery. All the tests I've read suggest that it's the best you can get with those features.

I remember someone on here a while ago (maybe mdgoonah?) suggested a group rewatch of The Wire, something like that could maybe be on the cards in times like these. Not necessarily that show of course, perhaps a movie would be even better as it's not quite as much of a time investment.

Ha. Jens, I actually found out my cable provider has all 5 seasons of the Wire. I watched episode 1 on the weekend. Was so happy. Such an excellent show have never rewatched a show but would be happy to do this one.
