Just so grateful for the service of all these social workers, medical staff. Humbled everyday and it further fuels my resilience against confinement. Not saying I've been perfect, but I am trying.
It isn't just the physical exertion and skills functions throughout such a shift, but also the mental fatigue of just monitoring someone fighting for breadth constantly. I didn't realize how tiring that last part is until I had be there for someone a few months ago. Also the toll it must it take to spread limited resources over a replenishing ward and make tough (some would say cold) decisions consistently.

They do an amazing job. Not just in the efforts they’re undertaking to battle Covid, but in their standard routines too.

I hope they are recognised and rewarded fittingly as soon as possible.

This is now perfectly legal in Germany. Working time laws have been amended this week for all "essential workers" including among others nurses to work 12 hours for six days straight, minimum legal resting time between shifts has been reduced to nine hours. Loads of people losing their jobs on one side the rest gets the life squeezed out of them.

I told you. Recovered patients being re-infected is not a new thing but honestly might be mis-test or just relapse.

That graph is a snapshot, I think until mid or late March the testing in the US was lower than the UK (which in and of itself was pretty low anyway). They've ramped up testing significantly since then but there's a lag before you see the effects

The father was one of my patients at the hospital before he was moved to the ICU. One of the earlier cases in the county.

I can't imagine what it's like having to bury your whole family. Did the son have any underlying conditions? (Edit: just saw that he had gotten a kidney transplant. I missed that paragraph on the first readthrough).

In other news, the US just surpassed Italy in the mortality statistics with 20500 dead. 1700 of those deaths in the last 24 hours alone, and as we already know the numbers are massively underreported over there. It makes your heart and head ache at the same time. It begs belief how anyone could have been so incredibly bad at implementing proactive measures like social distancing after watching the rest of the world struggling with outbreaks for three full months.

My understanding is no quarantine, congregations under 50 allowed. Peeps can still go hit the gym, a pub and dinner on the same night. Sure proactive, but in adopting the 'flexible' approach with emphasis on self, individual governance? Not sure about that, and those fatalities and incidences are climbing. For sure, different strokes for different folks. Couldn't trust the British public to heed any public decree remotely akin to that. What's going on Klaus? I'm I missing something ?

Underlying conditions is becoming a bit of a dismissive phrase and there are people with end stage lungs etc but he'd have gone on with life normally if not for the virus this time.
