Also playing at leftback, left wing and 8 is not as disruptive as some might make it out to be.
What was disruptive was playing him out at right wing though as he was clearly uncomfortable against City. He didn’t know how to come in to be effective or to cross. It was a bloodclot. He looked good Saturday at 8. We just fucked up another decent start. He hits the bar. He’s half a foot on putting Auba through on goal etc. So fine margins here.
What I do find interesting though is his pass map. It is completely against and along the flank. There is one cross-field ball to Pépé and none out right to Ceballos. His biggest combination was to Aubameyang and vice-versa (6 each). He also linked with Holding, Guendouzi and Kola. There is one Saka to Ceballos where Ceballos goes wide left of Saka. That’s the only link up between our 2 attacking midfielders all game!
Ceballos In contrast is much more mobile on the other tip of the V. Moves all over the park and passes everywhere. Many more cross-field balls. In the process, he neglects Pépé and gives him only two passes, both successful. This is part of why Pépé looks so bad. 5 passes from Bellerin and 2 from Pépé isn’t feeding the beast to Coombs’ point.
