to get that much requires leverage, sancho had it. i think his first dortmund contract was until 2020 and was extended to 2022 in 2019. dortmund and sancho's reps knew that for dortmund to get top money for him on the transfer market he had to extend. so they had leverage and dortmund paid up. saka doesn't have leverage. his reps are smartly trying to create some, but at the end of the day he has 18 months remaining paying him 3k a week. that's a long time to twist in the wind hoping to leave on a free. if saka goes from 3k to 80k then we're fucked because if you think the current mismanagement of our wage bill is bad, wait until you see what comes next. 10x his current wage is more than enough and then it's reevaluated next season and the next.
and there is no such thing as creating goodwill with the player. that idea should have died with cesc, rvp, etc. etc. we just need to make sure we have some leverage in all negotiations.
