In which case I think they'd hold onto him until they got a bid that better reflects their valuation of him in terms of generating funds for a rebuild.

That said the caveat being if there is a directive to slash wages, in which case we may be prepared to pay a portion of Ozil's wage if we can get the bulk of it off our books for his last year.

Just realised that Willian creates more key passes per game this season than anyone in our squad not named Messut Ozil.
If we are strapped for money we could do worse than pick him up on a free and play him in a midfield3.

That would depend on his work ethic / professionalism?
I've not heard anything to suggest he doesn't put in a shift & IIRC there was a recent article since the return to play that his recent performances have been as good as at any time of his career.

TBH he's not my preference, but beggars can't be choosers if we want to improve and not block the youngsters who could also learn from him.

Unless we somehow do a madness I think we will be looking to shift most of those earning 100k/week and over.

I've seen this one before, a CB named Gabriel at Arsenal, did not work out that great.
This is what I read about it, that we did make an offer but his deal with Napoli is done. Maybe Edu can still, somehow get it done with the brazilian connection? 25 milion is not that much, but the question is, is he any good?

Lille have received offers from Arsenal and Everton for centre-back Gabriel Magalhães but he is expected to join Napoli with Osimhen, for about €22-25m. [@lequipe]

Also this, one season in the Bundesliga can do him so much good.

A Gabriel/Upamecano transfer would mean a few defenders being shifted out.

Edu will have a lot of work to get through.

Unfortunately, now you have to pay extra. Like idiots. But you need to convince them you’re serious about the plan. Re-signing Aubameyang and duping one other player into coming will go a long way. But also just being clear about pay, plan to win, how the player fits perfectly in the system, support at the club, London etc will help.

If we don’t believe in the ambition, nobody else will

Money tbh. Put the best offer on the table, let raul and mikel do the spin about the 'project', and cross your fingers. That's pretty much all we can do

Yeah just seems like we might fall short on that too. I could see richer clubs going in for Upamecona especially.
