What brings out the best in players is competition - good competition. If we are giving them playing time simply to show faith in them whilst we have, or could have better options, it is to our own detriment.

I think the whole competition angle is overplayed personally. The invincibles had no competition and the did just fine. In fact all the best players do just fine despite knowing that their place is assured. I don’t watch the likes of Nketiah, Nelson and Willock struggle because they’re taking it easy, it’s quite visible that they’re trying too hard instead of playing their natural game.

Look at the likes of Hleb and Nasri the moment you added competition into the mix at City and Barca, they both crumbled. Besides, anyone who needs to know their place is under threat to perform should be sold.

I find 'Competition' is also often mistaken for depth. Having two youngsters compete for a spot is a good thing partly because younger players are hurt more often so you have depth. It's not necessarily that one of player all of a sudden jumped ahead of another.[/font]

[font=Source Sans Pro]I look at Tierney and Saka as a good example of this. Saka jumped on his opportunity when Tierney got hurt, but prior they didn't seem to be competing for the same spot with Saka besting Tierney.[/font]

Word is we've made a play for tanguy kouassi, highly rated young french CB who has refused a contract at PSG and is available for free

These guys always end up at dortmund and get sold for 5x/10x. We need to try and mirror dortmunds recruitment, except we have the finances to keep these guys beyond the usual BVB sale window of 21-23, and either keep them until their 30s or at least mid/late 20s

Oh wow!! This is another guy who’s been an early developer like our Saliba. Why on earth would PSG let him leave when he’s already broken through and looked good. Another Nkunku, but possibly worse

If you go on the guys twitter feed he says Dortmund and Bayern are very hot on in and Germany is his likely destination 🙁

He'd be perfect but if he's free and highly rated chances are he'll have his pick of clubs.

BVB seem like an obvious choice, and in keeping with the profile of their signings. We need to commit to offering top young players game time, and gazumping the likes of dortmund

The key is game time. So would require us to sweep out the detritus in the defense. Sokratis, Mustafi and Mavropanos loaned out to make space for him to develop. A Luiz, Mari, Saliba, Kouassi combo would be great. The English boys can be given time to get in shape to determine their future

If we get this guy it will be huge. I have read up on him and everyone say he is an immense talent. Varane level talent according to people in France.

Atlético has tried to reach an agreement with the player to increase that clause, but it has not been possible. His destiny seems to be that he will be the Premier League and as Antonio Ruiz reports, Arsenal is the best placed to get Partey.
