it's no coincidence since we started pushing more bodies up against leicester and villa, we started to see goals conceded on the counter. this was basically what we were doing under latter day wenger - assuming that committing bodies forward in an aimless manner means we'll create chances. based on what's happened to us in the last few games and what little we know of arteta in the last 9 months, i think we'll double down on the conservatism rafa style
I don't really think that's accurate. For a start, we didn't push more bodies up against Leicester, we started the game high and finished it high. We just weren't pressing as well and Vardy came on at just the right time to exploit the drop off.
The second Villa goal came from a corner, didn't it? We were slow to come out and we were slow to press. Most of Villa's attacks we had plenty of men back, they just didn't do anything while Holding and Gabriel hare mare with the defensive line. Against United we bullied the likes of Rashford, Greenwood, Pogba and Fernandes. We lost all our duels against Villa. Holding in particular was done by Watkins over and over again, while we seemed to have no plan for Grealish.Â
So yeah, becoming more conservative won't solve a thing. You'll still go into games with more chance of losing or drawing than picking up a win.Â
