Liverpool were playing the likes of Moreno, Klavan, Clyne, Karius, Henderson etc, in Klopps first season when he got CL, are they really that much better than Tierney, Sokratis, Bellerin, Leno, Xhaka, if anything they’re probably worse. Spurs and Utd can be overtaken, the same way Klopp overtook Wenger and an average Utd. The situations are quite similar, Klopp is just a very good manager, time for Arteta to sink or swim.
But that's my point, he came along at a real moment of weakness in the league and just about scraped 4th.
That's then this is now. Liverpool, Man City and chelsea are cemented into the top 4 for the foreseable future. Theirs one place to play for and a ton of competition for it.
At the time, City and Chelsea had the top 4 wrapped up, with Spurs challenging, there was one spot, which Arsenal occupied and Utd were challenging, if anything it is more competitive then it is now, as Wenger was a specialist at getting CL, yet Klopp overtook him.
Right now, I would say Pool and City have top 4 covered, then there's possibly Chelsea, but Lampard isn't entirely convincing and Abramovich doesn't seem to want to invest anymore. Then you have Utd/Spurs and Arsenal battling it out for 4th. If Newcastle were to enter the fray then it would change the picture, but that's not the case at the moment.
