I'm with Arteta on Nelson (at least my understanding of his recent comments regarding the kid). Nelson has spent far too long being moved here and there: right wing, left wing, Number 10, CM in in the U23s, wingback for the first team, striker and everywhere else for Nagelsmaan. As Arteta said he had lost his way, confused about what he needed to work on and master to excel in one position.
I heard Nelson in the summer talking about how he was a different player, more mature after his time in Germany, and how he liked to link play and with England he liked to drop deep and play give and goes. I think the truth is he doesn't have a clue, and he plays as if he doesn't either.
He has the tools to become a really good wide forward, but there's no way he has the awareness and decision making required to play as a 10 for a top club. And it would be a waste of his speed, his finishing and his dribbling, in my opinion, to not play him wide.
For me, he should be working like a dog in training to improve every area of his game that will aid his ability to play right wing, to get in behind, take people on and to score goals. Agressive movement, dribbling and direct passing. He can't be allowed to indulge in this idea that he is a Number 10 "naturally" or is somehow useful dropping deep and play nothing little passes. I think he has more than a touch of the Maitland-Niles about him in that respect and he needs to be set straight so he can focus on the one position he has a chance of making it as a really top player.
