There's already an article saying they won't and to only expect 'modest' spending as a result of COVID and the Govt loan.
IMO if correct that suggests we will sell to raise any funds for spending without additional funds being provided, which also means we are either unlikely to have either a team that is 'fit for purpose' and/or the quality required to challenge for top4.

KSE will probably spend but only because further seasons like this will be a disaster for them and in the long run cost them far, far more, especially considering how cheap money is at the moment. It's not like they're having to sell their kidneys on the black market.

As for the Athletic, it's quite clear that they have very little insight into anything.

Their model demands that they keep coming up with bullshit. They have dedicated writers for every major league and top flight football club in the world.

I think I mentioned this before but they should focus on analytical and background pieces. The origin story they did on Martinelli or taking a tactical/analytical look at games are the ones that differentiate them from the tabloid garbage.

A piece on Ceballos scratching Luiz in training is not what is not what I'd imagine people pay for, especially since those bits of news end up being filtered onto twitter anyway.

The problem is Ornstein and Gunnerblog are not exactly gifted writers or particularly insightful, they deal in gossip. Amy Lawrence is the only one with any sort of real background in that area and I find her quite unimaginative.

I think that's a good point goon. It's why I never renewed subscription either. I expected some reflective longform writing, kinda like a New Yorker for football articles, but I think they made the mistake of hiring people who - mostly - can't write and don't have the breadth either to come up with ways to contextualise football in a wider social perspective. Virtually everyone they headhunted were ITK:s or reporters of some sort, seemingly picked up for the size of their social media followings.

The problem is the model. They hired ITKs because they promised that they would give you depth on every football club. They have someone who knows West Brom better than any other football writer. They sacrificed depth for breadth. They should’ve just told someone like Amy to cover all Premier League but write the big story on Super League etc., versus just focusing on Arsenal. There are so many places for Arsenal specific content: Twitter, blogs, Discord’s, etc.

The government loan has an extremely low interest rate though right? I'm not sure I trust the way Kroenke is moving our loans to KSE instead, especially with no transparency.

The Govt loan is due to be paid back at the end of the season, but it can be extended as another loan until March(?) 2022. As it stands we don't have the capability to do so as our revenues have not yet begun to recover and we're still losing money on a weekly basis.

I'm suggesting that KSE will not pay the loan out from their own pocket but will likely provide additional funds to the club to pay out the loan to the Govt, by taking out a loan like they did last summer & transfering the repayment of the loan to the club. I don't think we will look to extend the loan even if the rates are good because it will need to be repaid in full by March, and I don't think our finances will have recovered enough by then to generate the additional revenue required to pay back the loan either by lump sum or instalments.

first time Bergkamp has spoken out. he sounds pretty invested in a takeover. its good strategy to keep the pressure on and remain visible and vocal while the kroenkes inevitably keep bungling things

Appears the 120m Govt loan has been repaid rather than extended. Looks like KSE made it happen but the details are unknown at this stage as to if it was via another loan or not.
TBH my initial reaction is I'd rather the loan had been extended and we used the 120m from KSE to rebuild the squad and push hard for top4. My concern is KSE will not top up any revenues we raise via player sales and we go into the season either incomplete or not of the required quality or capability.

There is no 120m from KSE, they decided the club couldn't pay the loan back in a year so now the money is owed to KSE instead.

The nice thing about a shareholder’s loan is that he is last in line should anything happen to the club. He is subordinate to the banks etc. It’s a helpful arrangement given the unclear cash flow situation, and the risk he bears will explain the big delta in interest rates from 0,5 to 8% between the two loans. So he’s given the club time and financial flexibility. Otherwise, we would’ve had to go to a bank to pick it up. Instead a bank can pick it up off the larger Kroenke balance sheet.
