Exactly. You quickly lose international appeal too, and lose the non-“legacy” fans after it has been a while and you’re no longer competitive, nor playing attractive football (with skilled players).

Everyone is different of course and has their own reasons for watching. I watch because Arsenal is Arsenal and I have the supporters disease. Messi is a wonderful player but I don't watch Barcelona. La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga all have some great football with great players, but I barely watch any of it. But if Fulham is playing Crystal Palace at a decent time I will probably watch because I'm invested in the Premier League.

Others have completely the opposite motivation.

Perhaps though the motivation I've described above is what goon is getting at.

My motivations won't help the Super League guys though either - they're after the ones who just like to watch the big name players.

Yes you will lose some fans who only supported for those players, but at the end of the day Arsenal will still continue to fill it’s stadium with long waiting lists for season tickets too.

Have to say I never thought I'd see the argument for insanely rich folks to have the right to be able to earn unlimited amounts, because they deserve it, on OMITT outside a few select posters 😆

The owners are much richer than the players. The only argument I see is that players are the people in the industry most deserving of big money. Hard to argue with that.

The argument is that they deserve it the most so there should be no upper limit on their earning potential.

I always found it weird how no one on OMITT had an issue with Ozil's salary, but now I know why they didn't mention it every 5 mins, it's because they were glad he was getting that money rather than Stan.

I don't think I've seen the argument that player salaries should be unlimited in isolation. Every post I've read on it was that a salary cap should not be introduced if it were the only limit in the game i.e. ticket prices owners putting their hands in etc all unfettered going up.

a salary cap only works if it applies to all of the major leagues, and if it also includes offsets like lowering ticket/merch prices. in a closed league, a salary cap just hurts the actual players, who deserve to maximize their earnings. without players, clubs dont make money. you also cant have the premier league introduce a salary cap, while la liga doesnt, because it will drain all of the talent out of the premier league, with players flocking to la liga to make more money.

because it has to be universal, its probably never going to happen.

They don't start as insanely rich folks. Most players are from modest backgrounds or even poverty. It's no coincidence that these are the ones the media and those who parrot the media want to see limited. Limiting the players wages won't make tickets cheaper it'll just make billionaires richer.

Henry is probably my favourite player ever, but I have to say his endorsement does little for me. He is not a very good coach based on his Monaco and Montreal stints and probably wants to be Arsenal manager himself.

I do like the idea of Eks taking over, though. He may not be that rich, but if he gets the fans involved then at least he'll be accountable, and that's already a great improvement over what we have.

I am a negro in America sir. The education in the neighborhoods of folks like me is poor, the healthcare if/when I receive it, is unaffordable, and the social services range from the truly pathetic to the comme ci comme ça variety.

Maybe if I can hide some change I might be able to afford to pay for enough quality day care that my child to can go get sick with some virus every other week...
