Until now I thought the new rule was that goals scored with your hand would be disallowed no matter where the hand was, which I think wasn't so bad, but extending it to build-up as well is ridiculous.

I understand the principles behind the rule. That we should erase confusion about handballs before goals and be able to use the technology of VAR to help us validate this.
But people’s arms are massive. The ball will brush past arms frequently. With both this and the Wolves game, the arms did not change the trajectory of the ball. There was no intention to handle. The ball just brushed past. There was nothing the players could have done. The rule disallows what were perfectly legitimate goals before for no reason other creating consistency for all balls that touched an arm.

It's a decision to be strict on any involvement of the hand to make it less unclear. It does seem harsh based on Wyatt we have seen but ultimately you can't use your hand and in this instance his hand led to the ball falling to someone to score a goal so had a material impact I guess.

Yeah, that is why the new rule is a bad one. With the old rule, VAR wouldn't disallow this goal. If FA suddenly decided to ban headed goals you can't criticize VAR for disallow a headed goal because you think headed goals should be allowed.

Put it this way, most people thought the Kos goal should have been ruled out against Burnley, yet he didn’t use his hand deliberately either. No, because the rule doesn't say that he should. The new rule states that even incidents that wouldn't normally be handballs shall still be called if it ends up in a goal. By that logic, it shouldn't be a penalty if it was the other way around.

That is, if I've understood correctly.

There's no rule saying that even accidental handballs should be a penalty, while there is a rule saying that even accidental handballs should result in a disallowed goal. Not quite sure what you mean by flipping the situation into one with totally different rules.

Kos scored a goal with his hand, ruled out is fair. Like what Quincy said, extending to the entire build up or passage of play is ridiculous. There were a lot more things that happened after that to score.

Not being nitpicky, but what do you mean with the bolded part?

Bang in the middle of the penalty area. Today’s one maybe didn’t have a huge impact (I haven’t looked) but on another day it prevents a clearance or interception in a crucial area of the field because it hit someone’s arm. Is that fair either? Not really.
